BYU's Haka
BYU players perform the Haka, which is the Maori War Dance. It's a really exciting thing to watch.
I got a video of it last time, here it is:

Thanks for the video footage. Too bad they are better at the Haka than they were playing football on the field.
Whatever, that was some spectacular Football last week! Thanks for the footage! Plus, the cougarcorner.com has turned out great! Thanks for the putting in the effort. I like the LES upper border. It's sweet!
Bro that was an awesome HAKA! good to see the bro taking his culture and sharing it with his bros on the team. Be STAUNCh and kia kaha cuz! Thanks for the footage.
thanks for the footage, hopefully a one off, a nice gesture on the teams part but meaningless here to the masses, all this will do is turn something that is profound in one culture into an interesting sideshow here... and if the Haka was better than the game......geeeeeez they are in trouble.
anonymous dude... get ova it bro. When it all boils down, footie is only a game. It's not the end of the world. Just enjoy the journey. Go Cougars!
To the meaningless guy in the masses, either you haven't been to a game lately or you were out buying hotdogs as the haka was happening. I don't know about the cultural thing but it's about the only thing that gets the fans and I'm sure the players going before the game. I should know as I was at the Notre Dame game right in front of them on Saturday. Hey, maybe you can ask Cosmo to join in, then maybe they'll think he's Cougar insteady of a pussycat

AMEN AND AMEN
If the haka actually inspired the cougars to win then good for them, I am with the masses guy......get your own thing Cougars......if you want to adopt something from New Zealand.....how about netball? they may do better with that than football.
Hey Cougar man.....I was at the Notre Dame game as well....and I wish I was with the meaningless masses guy buying a hotdag during the haka... what is that? All I saw was a mass of Pansies prancing around the field trying to.......intimidate...and I use that term loosely the opposition by intimidating the crowd????please leave the haka to the kiwis they do it better
I agree with some of the other comments about leaving the haka to the Maori people and All Blacks rugby team. I understand wanting to celebrate your culture but the haka done was from New Zealand and aren't the BYU players from Tonga? I love watching a well done haka as much as the next guy but this is one that should be left to the kiwis.
BYU are getting into some sensitive areas with the Haka. Would a Navajo or other Native-American war dance also be considered appropriate to do before a football game? I don't think so. I have no doubt that most Maori would be mighty ticked if they knew that BYU had hijacked and trivialized an important part of their culture. Drop
it guys.
Yes I know for a fact that they shouldn't have done the haka. It is something that you should leave to the All Blacks and those who respect it.
If the Haka gives the Cougars a Warrior mentality, I hope they do it every day this week! Not only beat the Utes, HUMILIATE THEM! Go Cougars!
The Haka lost somthing, when a bunch of american footballers preformed it. anyone who thaught it was good check out the real thing. Where guys not wearing pads, and that actualy know the meaning of it preform it.
As an Australian, I've often been on the recieving end of a Haka on the rugby field.
I think that it is a wonderful gesture and a testiment to the character of the players and coaches who participated.
Leave the haka to New Zealand they actually know what their doing. Also they don’t mispronounce the word to the "ka mate" haka which they stole off the All Blacks. Besides if they were really tough they would be playing rugby instead of football, only fragile Americans play with padding on their shoulders.
The BYU player who suggested, and subsequently taught his team mates to do The Haka, is not only of Maori descent -but the grandson of a tribal chief in New Zealand. You'll notice him leading it every time. He decided to do this after the passing of his father just before his sophomore year. His father would have been the next chief.
Either which way, they felt it would help pump up the team before games- and not to offend people of other heritage.
Its football! Seemed as appropriate as anything else to bring in the energy.
The BYU team deciding to perform the haka before their games made the front page of several newspapers New Zealand.
Everyone here is aware of our Maori player there, and very happy he chose to perpetuate the tradition. Not one Kiwi I've heard speak about the issue had a different opinion.
Good luck to the Cougers, and their players from all descents. We hope this age old dance can help start them off with spirit- and everyone else for that matter!
