Cougar News Article from the Future
Thanks to new internet technology that allows us to see into the future, we have retrieved this news article clipping from Jan. 10th, 2007. As you can see, it clearly states that BYU wins the BCS National Championship Game over Texas!
The article reads:
GLENDALE, AZ. (AP) - John Beck and BYU no longer have to answer questions about "having it" that elusive quality that no one can define.
With the national championship down to a final play, Beck scrambled away from pressure before launching an 58-yard touchdown on fourth down with 19 seconds left and the No. 2 Cougars stunned the top-ranked Longhorns 41-38 in the BCS National Championship Game on Tuesday night.
The high-scoring game everyone expected to see broke out in the second half - yet it was a defensive stop that was the key to BYU ending Texas' championship repeat hopes.
When the Longhorns gambled, the Cougar secondary picked off a desperation throw on a fourth-and-2 at midfield with 2:09 left.
Beck, fresh off a surprising Heisman win, wound up with the ultimate exclamation mark on a perfect season. On a night when he ran for 200 yards and passed for 367 more, he capped a performance that Cougar fans will remember forever by scoring the final TD and running for a 2-point conversion.
"It's so beautiful," Beck said as he received the MVP crystal. "Don't you think that's beautiful? It's coming home all the way to Provo, Utah, there's no way we couldn't have done this without Touchdown Curtis Brown rushing for 225 yards tonight."
With the two highest scoring teams in the country, many figured it would come down to which team had the ball last. It basically did, and Texas was denied its second straight title.
BYU players streamed onto the field with the Cougar's first outright national title since 1984. Beck stood on the sideline in a sea of falling confetti, arms raised toward the crowd, and senior tackle Jake Kuresa unfurled a big, white Cougar flag.
