Again BYU attempts a 2 point conversion twice and fails twice and are at 0-9 and likely cost BYU a second game. Because if BYU had the 2 points from kicking the PAT than BYU would have only been down 1 point with the ball an 1 minute to play. They could have run 3 running plays to take time off the clock then kicked the game winning FG from a very makeable spot.

2 point conversions are only have around a 38% success rate where the PAT is around 90%.
But if they were only down by one point, you would not have seen West Virginia go into the prevent, and they would not have gone into a drain the clock offense either. We tend to forget that a different score changes how both teams approach the game, not just one. As such, there is no guarantee of victory. Even with the decisions that were made, just a few different plays and we win every game this season. That has to be encouraging with a new coaching staff.
The only problem with that opinion is that WVU's D was bad and no matter what they did as they wouldn't have stopped BYU's last drive because they used that D all game long and BYU by being 2 points closer could have kicked the winning FG after running the clock down.

It was the right call because we were on the road in a hostile environment, Williams was out, 2 of our defenders were out, our D was tired, and I'm not sure we could have hung in there in OT.

It was the right play because, even though Utah later said it was what they were expecting, who else do we feel comfortable with other than Taysom? He's the only rushing threat at that point. Our receivers, not to mention Taysom's accuracy, are suspect. So a run/pass option with Hill keeping the ball makes sense. He just did nothing to try and fool the Ute D and he had insufficient help from his blockers.

On a side note, if I remember right, we were much closer to the end zone but got backed up 5 yards because a stupid delay of game penalty on our part. One wonders if Taysom would have gotten in with less distance to go. I think so.

I would had liked to see Francis Bernard come in at RB for that play to mess with Utah
I like the idea of messing with Utah, and that would give them something to think about.
