Have you looked at the pictures of these 8th graders? Two look like accomplished High School seniors. Are they all 8th graders who were held back four years? Our team will be amazing with them on it.
In all seriousness - these early commits are just pie in the sky dreams. It's nice Coach Sitake is rolling the dice with these youngsters and we have a chance. It gives them hope and gets their parents excited. But ...... most likely, they'll de-commit and land elsewhere.
Just look at Cameron Latu, DE, 6' 5", 235 lbs, 3 star from SLC. He committed during his sophomore year (with his twin brother) to the Y. Lots of upside. He's now de-committed from BYU. Well, he grew up ( 1 year later - sarcasm), gotten on the radar of other schools, and now - he puts his chances at - USC 50%, Oregon 25%, Alabama 25%.
He's also got offers from Utah, UCLA, and Washington (he says he's "warm" on all 3 with their offers). BYU? He rates the Y's chances as "cool", right next to Utah St.
Remember the 7th grader Lane Kiffin (before he was fired) offered a USC, QB scholarship to? That 7th grader was a guaranteed, sure fire, off the charts talented Div. 1 QB. He's not at USC (they pulled their scholarship). He's not even playing Div. 1 QB anywhere. He's a Wide Receiver for W. Virginia. Not bad.
I hope these kids pan out. I'm not too hopeful. 5 years for these kids to keep their commitment is 1,000 years away. I guess it's good to be 1st to the party rather than last and offer early. Hopefully the 1st offer is remembered by these kids if they pan out as Div. 1 athletes and they remember BYU. Time will tell.Statistics: Posted by Ddawg — Mon Feb 27, 2017 1:14 pm
