The problem has been inconsistency with Tanner. He is not able to consistently sustain drives or produce touchdowns. Seems to be able to make pass that is very difficult, but under or overthrows easy passes which can produce first downs. Still quick to jump the gun when pressure comes from the outside, and does not have a very good pocket presence to know when to stay and when to flee. He does best rolling to his right and slinging it on the run, however, this becomes predictable. He also misses a lot of 2nd and 3rd options when first one is covered. Most glaring stat is that they are not converting points in the red/blue zone. Three times had opportunity to score within the 10 in the ECU game they came away with 3 points. Terrible conversion rate.
The offensive line is also not providing a consistent push on the run game, and our run game is not producing well to set up the pass. We have lost several RBs (Canada, Fonua, Dye) and currently have Tolutau, Hall and Burt all of except for Hall have little experience. The receivers are still running poor routes and dropping balls. Only go to player appears to be Hifo. Inconsistent play from Trinaman, Pauau, and Tanner. For wide receivers it is likely inexperience, youth and poor chemistry with QB. Regarding the OL, there is always one guy that is off-sync on the play, which the defense exploits and blows up the play. RB positions seem to not be very good at picking up blitzing LB or DE.
We are still looking at an offense that has yet to jell and the leader of the O should be the QB. Tanner does not seem to instill the same level of confidence and trust that Beau Hoge showed vs USU until his injury. I am convinced that we would have beat USU had Beau remained in the game (ahead 21-7), and he likely would have remained a starter. At present, Tanner is who Coach Detmer believes provides the best chance to win given Detmer and Critchlow as backups. Should Tanner not perform, he will likely hand the baton to Critchlow to see how he performs if given the chance.
All of the problems you outlined above is because all of those players are being poorly coached.Statistics: Posted by frdbtr — Tue Oct 24, 2017 9:13 am
