Friday Open Practice
Friday Open Practice
Spent the morning at the BYU Cougar’s Friday open football practice today, August 19, 2005 and I was very impressed. The team was working hard, there was no slacking and there must have been over one thousand fans in attendance.
Items of note, the players were really hustling, during the scrimmage which was played as touch football, players were not giving up or stopping after being touched, they hustled towards the end zone.
Both Beck and Berry looked very sharp making correct decisions quickly and delivering the ball well. Beck had one bobbled pass picked off, which should have been a catch. I had heard a lot about our injuries and thinness at Corner Back, but I saw the defense play close and physical, I did not see anything spectacular, but nor did I feel they had anything to be ashamed of, the Receivers were making great grabs, leaping for and typing the ball to them when it was high.
The team was running much smoother than I would have anticipated for so early in the year. I think this bodes well for the season. I look for great things out of the BYU Cougars this year, and I think a good yard stick will be when we play the Boston College Eagles.
