Hey, grey hair is better than no hair son. Count yourself lucky...so far.

It will be interesting to see because there is an obvious fall off from last season. The whole Heaps; B12/BE fiasco; underperforming OL; loss of our TE, and being beat last year by our two biggest rivals of the last few years (Puktah & TCU), and struggling to beat USU; adjusting to a coach that doesn't do things like any other coach out there (not saying I disagree totally, but it's hard playing in a sport where winning is #1 to everyone else and who talk of wanting to develop strong young men to actually having a coach that pursues that course almost despite the sport); and finally the frank realization that we were okay when we had a conference to dominate, but without that opportunity, we're left to meaningless late night games in November against non-thrilling opposition.
Wow...

Talk about looking at things from the worst possible angle. Did you hear that BYU football hasn't lost a game this year? :P

I thought we were easily the better team vs. Utah and UT last year, but our QB sucked so our defense could only hold on so long. That being said, I think we finish off the Utes in the 2nd half like we should have last year. I realize that seems crazy since we lost by 44 points, but the last 3 TD's were momentum scores, nothing more.

what's funny is that some people act like losing by 44 LAST YEAR means we will be playing from 44 points behind THIS YEAR. Score will be 0-0 at kickoff in RES. BYU in that sense does need to forget the past and treat it like another game. Don't let the 44 point pounding get in your head.

Yes. Last year was Boise's year, and they blew it. They lost almost their entire starting D. I fully expect us to score in the 30's against them. Heck, we scored almost that many against TCU last year. And I expect our O to be much better this year, and no WAY BSU's d this year is anywhere near TCU's last year.
TCU had a horrific defense last year, for TCU standards. People don't seem to realize that TCU's defense gave up as many yards last year as it had in the 3 previous years combined, almost.

TCU's defense last year = decent SDSU defense or a good Air Force defense.
Horrific? Hyperbole much. Got any data to back up horrific. For example, a horrific defense could not stop a bad team.

Not much different from any other year for BYU football, or any college team really. There are gimme games and games you should win and a couple that will be toss ups. It sounds like you've just tempered expectations a little.

My guess is we split GT/BSU.
I agree for the most part, but BYU definitely "got up" for the utah game last year. They were cleary the more determined team through the first half. It didn't help though.

Again, how is this year any different than any other BYU season? I know you dislike RN and you were fully invested in JH, but are you really going to let that ruin your excitement for BYU football?
Let him wallow in Heaps of misery - with fewer demanding a share of the excitement, more excitement is left for the rest of us.

BTW - I fully agree with TX that 8-4 or 9-3 and a lower tier bowl are most likely. However, I think there are 7 games that could go either way.

Maybe TX can name the only 2 he thinks are in doubt and then he will be able, with all of us helping him, to hold himself accountable, if BYU wins two he thinks are losses but loses two of his sure wins.

"Horrific according to TCU standards" is what I said. But like always, you take things out of context because you have a serious lack of reading comprehension.

TCU's defense was just inside a Top 50 defense, playing the patsies of the MWC.

A much further cry from the top 1 and 2 defenses in the nation that they had 3-4 years ago, no?

Sure. GT and BSU are the only ones I'm not pretty certain of the outcome. I think ND and Utah are all but sure losses. I think all the rest are all but certain wins, with Washington State likely providing the only real challenge.

PS, if you feel the need to be just like Kryle Whitingham and "hold me accountable" (you may need a shower at just thought of being like that yewtbag), I will not respond to you with the Joe Glenn salute, deserved as it may be. Like I said, I'd love to be wrong. Would be ecstatic to bust the BCS. I just think it is literally impossible with this year's talent, especially QB.

Agreed. TCU finished with a top 30 defense.

For this year, yes my excitement has been damaged. For me it has been a perfect storm of football schedule, conference afiliation, off the field mess and also being very busy at work. I'm just not as excited about the season. It is what it is.

To answer your question, I can't think of a year where I felt more confident that I knew the outcome going into the season. For instance, going into the season last year, IIRC, I wasn't sure of the outcome of Ole Miss, Texas, Utah and UCF. I was farily certain we would lose to TCU but still had my hopes up we could pull it off. I think the newness of Indy was also exciting.
