But, like playing your brother in a game of 1 on 1 in the back yard, I want to win BADLY. I want those bragging rights. I want to lord over him when I win. Rub it in his face--all in good fun of course, because he;d do teh same to me.

What I hate about the rivalry is the anti-LDS sentiment, and that comes from one side and one side only. It is bitterness and vile. Many in this state turn it into a referendum game on the LDS faith, and I am sorry, but I hate that. Perhaps it is partially fair game though because of how the LDS Church is using the football program as a missionary tool, so in a way, it is an extension of the church in that way. SO I guess I get it, I just don't like it.

As to Vai's comments, he needs to just shut up about Bronco. It is clear that he still loves BYU and his time there, He sent kids there. BUt he clearly has an axe to grind with Bronco, and it is immature and juvenile. Whit is happy to stroke Vai's ego and sniff his jock while Bronco is just not that type of guy. Vai needs to check his own self on this one, because his pride is giving him away. Vai is not the only one either. Hans Olson, Jason Buck, and Ofahangaue also are upset due to coaching snubs. It is pettiness.
Very well put!

Tripwire, I promise you will never see a byu fan throw beer on a ute fan or player. You will never see from a byu fan sex acts performed on a blow up doll representing a Ute players mother! And you will never see up to 10%, which means thousands of drunk fans dropping multiple fbombs at opposing fans or telling fans to f their religion. Ok? So shut it with the religion thing.

I am not really interested in keeping score about which side acts worse. If you want I'll even grant that Utah fans are worse, perhaps they are.
I just wish the vitriolic hate from both sides, especially on the religion issue, would subside.
Kind of ironic, don't you think.

I think people need to differentiate between competitive "hate" and hate. Mistreatment of individuals is not acceptable. However, I see no problem with cheering loudly against someone. I desire that all Utah teams lose and lose badly. However, I am not happy that Wynn got injured. I have no desire to see the team thrive. However, I hope that the players who are so inclined will go on missions and serve faithfully in the church. I dislike the attitude of the fans (mainly because they want Utah to win). However, I can (and have) serve side by side with them in church callings. When I say I hate Utah, I am not saying I desire physical or spiritual harm to come to the individuals collectively or individually. Nor am I condoning mistreatment or foul play.
It's kind of like when I say I'm proud of my children and someone says that pride is bad. Just because I am using the term proud to describe my emotions towards my children doesn't mean that I am proud in the biblical sense. Likewise, just because I use the term hate in reference to Utah, doesn't mean that I have checked my religion at the door.

I hate the Utes. BYU stickers in their urinals is pretty low. Dumping beer on opponents is even lower. Does anything good come out of the U of U?

I think he means :utard: as it is now, not BYU North that it was a half century ago.
