Re: Harvey Langi Transfer
True.....BUT BYU/Utah will play prior to the end of Langi's eligibility (they play again in 2016). I expect BYU/Utah to play nearly every year after this brief break, so I would categorize Utah as a future opponent.BoiseBYU wrote:Compare Whit to Bronco who released Pritchard who's at OregonState now, yes? I get that Utah fans says this is different because BYU and Utah are rivals, but you can't have it both ways--you cannot say we are rivals and then refuse to schedule us....
Other schools have unofficial rules about transferring to teams on the schedule, full release to a team not scheduled in the time of eligibility.
Personally, I hope KW does not release him. Does not make him look that good and Langi may need a year to sit after the mission to get integrated in the system and get in football shape (even though it is looking more and more like he can play if ready).

Seeing tweets like this:
Can someone explain the loophole they are talking about?. @975hans confirms that Langi falls under the LOI loophole and can transfer without a release from Utah.

KW looks like a jackass without much help. In fact it comes pretty naturally.CrimsonCoug wrote:Bronco's policy of always releasing kids if they want to be released, without restrictions, gives unparalleled credibility to his view that his top priority is the student-athletes...as it should be.
It'd be sad to see Whit play hard ball on this, but would only benefit BYU: deteriorates the relationship with the poly community, and by making KW look like a jackass, it proves Harvey's point: being at the U can change otherwise good men into being something less than their best.
All that anti-BYU stuff he'll hear in the next day or so will sound a lot like the sloppy anti-Mormon rhetoric he heard as a missionary in Florida. Elder Langi has the Spirit and is a man; he'll make the right choice, even if he does have to sit out a year. In fact, that may be the best outcome for BYU and him. A year out would tar Whit with his own brush and would help Langi knock off any post-mission rust and help him hang onto the ball a bit better (he did have at least one fumble, though the ball went out of bounds).
Last thought: some have said that he stunk his first year. The KSL article called it disappointing. But 70 yards on 13 carries yields a 5.3 ypc average--pretty darn good.

Re: Harvey Langi Transfer
Over on Cougarboard, someone said that Langi graduated HS early and enrolled at Utah. He was on scholarship that winter semester and the following fall semester (football season). He then left before the winter semester started following the football semester so Utah may not have filed his financial aid/scholarship paperwork renewal since they didn't need to since he wouldn't be there that next semester.billbillbillbill wrote:Seeing tweets like this:Can someone explain the loophole they are talking about?. @975hans confirms that Langi falls under the LOI loophole and can transfer without a release from Utah.
The problem with that is that he didn't go until after the semester had started so he technically left on his mission while NOT being on scholarship at Utah. And as such, he's not really a transfer since he didn't have a scholarship to be released from. Kind of like the Josh Sharp situation.

Re: Harvey Langi Transfer
Everyone and their dog close to the U is now tweeting that Langi doesn't need any waiver from Utah as he is within what they are calling the "LOI loophole."
Other athletic departments refer to the "LOI loophole" as mismanagement or malpractice by the coaches and compliance officers, but to each their own, I guess.

Great post on Cougarboard: (http://www.cougarboard.com/board/messag ... d=12634856" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
With all due compassion to Kyle, let's not forget, he committed to coach at BYU and then changed his mind...as did another member of his staff. Langi had a change of heart as well. Whit should understand how that works

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.
