Rooting Guide Week 1

The goals for BYU are:

1. To win the National Championship
2. To go to a NY6 bowl game
3. To achieve the highest ranking possible
4. To win as many games as possible
5. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl team possible
6. To be better than Utah

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU over Connecticut

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. If we need help from Utah in any way then it is not worth having.

Idaho St. over Utah

C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS.

Boise St. Over #18 Ole Miss
Houston over UTSA
UNLV over Arizona
UCF over Penn St.
Virginia over #7 UCLA
Nevada over Southern Utah
Cal over Northwestern
MTSU over Savannah St.
Texas over North Texas
USU over Tennessee

D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. If both teams are ranked cheer for the team with more probable losses in their future (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).
Oklahoma St. Over #1 Florida St.
West Virginia over #2 Alabama
South Dakota over #3 Oregon
Louisiana Tech over #4 Oklahoma
Navy over #5 Ohio St.
Arkansas over #6 Auburn
Jacksonville St. Over #8 Michigan St.
#21 Texas A&M over #9 South Carolina
SMU over #10 Baylor
UC Davis over #11 Stanford
#13 LSU over #14 Wisconsin
#16 Clemson over #12 Georgia

Weber St. Over #19 Arizona St.
Stephen F. Austin over #20 Kansas St.
Florida Atlantic over #22 Nebraska
Liberty over #23 North Carolina
South Dakota St. Over #24 Missouri
Hawaii over #25 Washington

E. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. The more connected a team is to our opponents the more you should cheer for them (unless it violates rules A-D). Air Force is the most connected team to our opponents as they play 4 games against them (Boise St., Nevada, UNLV, Utah St.). The number by the team indicates how connected they are. If the numbers are equal take the team who has lost or will most likely lose to our opponents.

AF 4 over Nicholls St.
South Florida 3 over Western Carolina
Tulane 3 over Tulsa
Temple 3 over Vanderbilt

Out of all these games on who to root for, the one that has a special place in my heart is Utah State traveling to Tennessee. Tennessee is kind of a middle-of-the-pack team this year, and they just named their starting QB to go with their 1st year O coordinator . The Vols are also really young generally as a team. I think USU has a shot and Chuckie K should show those arrogant SEC fans what's up. I really want this one. Bad. Ohhhhh, I can't wait for the weekend! It's football time, baby!

Here's a good writeup on this matchup. The line is only +6.5 for Tennessee too, which shows some respect to USU. Cougar nation, you are invited to join me in being fellow Vol-haters for the weekend: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/21 ... me-preview

Point "B" is first and foremost in my book.

I'd love to see USU win that game, but they are not going to.

Utah St. has lost 48 straight road games vs. major conference teams. They did tie TCU in 1981 when TCU was a member of the SWC. That tie snapped a 15 game losing streak. USU's last road win against a major conference team came in 1971 against Kansas St.

0-63-1 suggests history is not on their side.
