Re: Skye PoVey Poll
Watched the whole thing. Statements like "every time there was a 15 yard gain it was on PoVey" are simply not true.
A credit to all of the DBs is that with 3 minutes left, when UCONN hit on a 35 yard pass play on Davis inside the 10, the announcers noted that this was the only big chunk yardage play of the night.
BYU held UCONN on that drive and PoVey was instrumental in that effort.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
This is PoVey's first season where he's been at 100%, so i throw everything from other seasons out the window. Based on Saturday, i think he is a more-than-serviceable backup safety and i have no problem with him seeing significant playing time.

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
I still don't understand why Daniel hasn't gotten time at safety (like he played in JC as I recall). Seems like Davis or Praetor could play some minutes.

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
Again, I honestly saw nothing that made me feel like the guy shouldn't be on the field.
Take a deep breathe folks, opposing teams will on occasion make a play. It's unrealistic to expect the defense won't "give up" a pass play every now and then.

Davis and Preator could play some minutes - wait - they DID play significant minutes. Both of them. Rob Daniel is one of them. Injured last year. Suspended last week. He will play where he is needed most. And if he gets swapped between safety and corner and nickel a bit - that just gives BYU even more options if some guys get injured.Qman wrote:I still don't understand why Daniel hasn't gotten time at safety (like he played in JC as I recall). And we have 2 suspended starters returning Saturday. And the Nebraska transfer. Depth. Unusual depth.

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
Povey was involved in some of the defense's best blitzes of the night. He's a solid tackler with serviceable DB skills. Expect to see improvement in the coverage with JJ and Daniel returning; however, it might not be noticeable this week because the Texas WR corps >> than UConn. Also expect to see Povey still get some playing time against Texas - which is NOT a bad thing.
I'm more nervous to see whether our defense can stop Texas' running game. UConn didn't really challenge us much with their rushing game and only ran it 40% of the time.

Nailed it. Texas will be running and running and running and their QB has almost no experience throwing.YNot wrote:Povey was involved in some of the defense's best blitzes of the night. Run support, blitz packages, and tackling will be critical by our DBs.

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
I thought he played fine. If this was the BYU of just several years back, he'd be the norm. We're lucky to have some athletic and skilled guys that play in front of him, but he's a fine back-up.
I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

Re: Skye PoVey Poll
PoVey was slated to take a medical redshirt last season, but was asked to play despite his plantar faciitis issues after the JJ injury. We were essentially starting a guy at the corner who should have been on a PUP list. Looking at 2013 PoVey and saying what he can and can't do is not a constructive exercise.TulaneVandyRiceCoug wrote:That assessment made me sit back in my chair and think.snoscythe wrote:This is PoVey's first season where he's been at 100%, so i throw everything from other seasons out the window.
