Nice, I wouldn't have thought a move of more than 1 or 2 was likely.

That's more than a lot were expecting. Week 3 was a success.

BYU plays at Nebraska, Michigan, and UCLA next season. I wouldn't mind playing any or all of those games in 2014!

So I'm in New York for the next 2 weeks. Got in today. Walking past NBC a ticker tape scrolls in the window. The sports segment runs stories about baseball penant races, NFL players arrested, something about NASCAR, then "BYU could make conversation interesting."

Then on it goes to the business news.

Then world headlines.

Then national headlines.

Then back to sports with the same nod to BYU.

THE COUGARS ARE GETTING NOTICED!

Everyone loves an underdog story. That was what made the BCS sucessful, the BCS busters. We are filling that right now.

Agreed, they looked more daunting to start the year.....especially UCLA. UCLA loses their QB and a few others next year, Michigan may have a new coach and system and I don't know Nebraska well enough to provide good color.....but there could be opportunities for big wins.

I would also add that Cincinnati could be tough.

Everyone knows the playoff system is a joke and the whole system is exclusionary.

BYU upsetting the apple cart before it's even rolled down the street is a great story.

BYU will continue a fairly steady rise in the polls for the next 5-6 weeks. If BYU continues to win those games (some of which may actually be against some pretty decent teams that will garner some national respect for defeating), they should move 1-3 spots each week.

But once BYU moves up to the top 10 or so, the climb will begin to slow.

BYU could like move up to #18 for beating a surprisingly decent UVA team.

A bye week, coupled with some losses could by othe teams see BYU move up on spot to #17.

Then a home win vs USU would be a another two spots, now we're #15.

Throw in a road win at UCF and BYU is probably looking at a #12 ranking.

Come home and beat Nevada and BYU likely holds at #12 without help from losses by teams ahead of them, but now BYU could be leapfrogged by a P5 team with a big win over a ranked opponent.

Beat Boise and BYU could move up #10.

And after that, BYU is not going to climb due to what they accomplish. Few voters and media will be impressed by beating Middle Tennessee, UNLV or Savannah St.

BYU's last chance is at Cal, where the Cougars will need Cal to be decent to good (8+ wins at that point) to move up. But even with a win there, BYU's ranking ceiling is probably #7 or #6.

Just my guess, but I don't think those that count will want BYU anywhere near the Top 4.
