TV Ratings 2014

Week 3
Finally, the week three Thursday night game between Houston and BYU drew a 0.6 and 1.0 million — down 57% in ratings and 54% in viewership from TCU/Texas Tech last year (1.4, 2.3M). The debut of Thursday Night Football on CBS likely impacted the numbers.

Week 4
It looks like UVA got a 1.0 on ESPN. Solid numbers compared to the previous games. Hopefully they go up when we keep winning.

Earlier this week it was mentioned that there was a dearth of ratings discussion. Below are the stats I pulled from sportsmediawatch.com, with updates for the UVA game.
Disclaimer: The SEC Network, CBS Sports Network, the Big Ten Network and the Pac-12 Network do not get Nielsen rated, and therefore we have no accurate data for those.
Game by Game
@ UConn: 1,080,000
@ Texas: 910,000
Vs. Houston: 1,050,000
Vs. Virginia: 1,640,000
BYU TV Stats Through 4 Games:
Total Games Televised Nationally: 4 (Tied for Most Televised)
Total Viewers: 4,680,000 (#23/115 [^9])
Average Viewers per Game: 1,170,000 (#48/115 [^2])
The Virginia ratings are heartening. Last season's Virginia game had the same start time, and this years game had over 5X the viewers (admittedly, last year's game was on ESPNU). Our viewership matched the Iowa vs. Iowa State rivalry game from the week before in the same time slot. Overall, we made strides, and hopefully the week off won't hurt any momentum.
I also compared where BYU's average viewership per game ranks in the other major conferences. If BYU was in Conference X, we would be ranked X in viewership within that conference:
P5
ACC.......#8
BIG10....#6
BIG12....#8
PAC12....#7
SEC........#11
G5
AAC.......#4
CUSA.....#4
MAC......#3
MWC.....#2
SUN......#2
The only conferences we gained ground in were the B1G and the MWC, both of who are suffering with their on the field product this year. We lost ground in the ACC, PAC and SEC.

We keep winning and people will keep tuning in, like what happened to Boise.

Re: TV Ratings 2014
FWIW, the most-watched CFB game on FoxSports1 so far this season is....
"2b. UCLA’s rout of Arizona State last Thursday drew 883,000 total viewers for Fox Sports 1, the second-most-watched game on the network this year behind BYU-Texas (910,000)."

Really? The CUSA has 3, MAC 2, MWC 1 and the SUN 1 team(s) that draw more viewers than BYU?scott715 wrote: P5

I'm a little shocked we would be an #8 in the Big12. Takes a little power over saying we'd be an asset to that conference in revenue with 7 of 11 schools drawing more eyes than BYU and knowing that TCU is definitely one of those 3 that has less.
Who are all these 7 schools in the G5 that outdraw BYU on TV?

Re: TV Ratings 2014
Can't answer you as I was quoting another site.
With that said, it is early in the season and the numbers will change especially for the G5. Take a school with UCF who played Penn St and Missouri the first two weeks and they will have good numbers. Put them in conference games and their numbers will drop.

Re: TV Ratings 2014
Most likely has something to do with opponents, than the teams. I.E Troy probably had a lot of views when they play Georgia two weeks ago.EM_Puma wrote:Really? The CUSA has 3, MAC 2, MWC 1 and the SUN 1 team(s) that draw more viewers than BYU?scott715 wrote: P5
