Re: Jay Omer to retire
Then he said when Omer came on (his senior year), that Omer improved on some of the things Stiggins was doing. Apparently, though, Omer hasn't changed to keep up with changes in the field.runbyu1 wrote:Brandon Doman was talking about this on the radio yesterday and talked about how the hidden secret of the Utah football program is their incredible Strength and Conditioning coach.
He mentioned that Chuck Stiggins (the former Strength & Conditioning Coach at BYU) was that way for BYU when he was playing and he also hinted that this was an area that BYU was not doing as well in as Utah is.
He mentioned that these guys have access to the players during times of the year that the regular coaches aren't allowed contact and that they can have a massive effect on the overall success of the team. Pretty interesting stuff.

Re: Jay Omer to retire
I don't know--couldn't it just be that after a 43 year career of training athletes he is actually retiring without being told he better or he is getting fired? Also, when someone is forced out they usually don't announce it as they are retiring after the season is over and have him stay on the job for a couple months. It could be that they've had internal discussions and decided they want to go in directions Omer isn't comfortable with and he decided it is his time. I wouldn't be surprised at all if his skills haven't kept up with the times--that happens to everyone. I just don't like the assumption without any information that he must have sucked at his job and was going to be fired.
