The current goals for BYU are:

1. To go to a NY6 bowl game
2. To achieve the highest ranking possible
3. To win as many games as possible
4. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl team possible
5. To be better than Utah

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU over East Carolina

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah

Cal over Utah

C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS.

#25 Boise St. over Colorado St.
UConn over UCF
#18 Michigan over #13 Northwestern
Missouri over #11 Florida
Nebraska over Wisconsin
San Jose St. over UNLV
Utah St. over Fresno St. (Utah St. has a chance to post a stronger overall record which helps us more at the end of the year)
Wagner over Columbia

D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Also, cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked cheer for the team with more probable losses in their future (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).

Maryland over #1 Ohio St.
Kansas St. over #2 TCU
Kansas over #3 Baylor
Rutgers over #4 Michigan St.
Georgia Tech over #6 Clemson
South Carolina over #7 LSU
Arkansas over #8 Alabama
Texas over #10 Oklahoma
Miami over #12 Florida St.
New Mexico St. over #14 Ole Miss
Navy over #15 ND
Washington over #17 USC
Tennessee over #19 Georgia
West Virginia over #21 Oklahoma St.
Illinois over #22 Iowa
Kent St. over #24 Toledo

E. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. The more connected a team is to our opponents the more you should cheer for them (unless it violates rules A-D). For example, UNLV is the most connected team to our opponents as they play 5 games against them (UCLA, Michigan, SJSU, Fresno St., Boise St.). The number by the team indicates how connected they are. If the numbers are equal take the team who has lost or will most likely lose to our opponents.

SMU over Houston (Houston could be ranked ahead of us if they win)
Southern Miss over Marshall
Virginia Tech over NC St.
Army over Duke
Penn St. over Indiana
Temple (3) over Tulane
Virginia (2) over Pitt
Miami OH over Ohio
Rice over Florida Atlantic
South Florida (3) over Syracuse
Minnesota (2) over Purdue
Oregon St. (3) over Arizona
Washington St over Oregon
Tulsa (2) over Louisiana Monroe
New Mexico over Nevada
Colorado over Arizona St.
Air Force (4) over Wyoming (2)
Hawaii over SDSU

F. Root against teams that could potentially be ranked ahead of BYU. Root for the ACC champ to make the playoff. Root for the weakening of the Big 12 to force it to expand (unless it violates rules A-E)

Boston College over Wake Forest
Iowa St. over Texas Tech

G. Cheer for the FCS team. Because it is fun (unless it violates rules A-E)

Portland St. over North Texas

H. It really doesn’t matter

UTEP vs. Florida International
Middle Tennessee vs. Western Kentucky
Central Michigan vs. Western Michigan
Umass vs. Bowling Green
Akron vs. Eastern Michigan
Appalachian St. vs Georgia St.
Ball St. vs. Northern Illinois
Texas St. vs. Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Tech vs. Texas San Antonio
