Best Player vs. Player Who Has "Earned" It
In discussing why Riley Burt isn't seeing more snaps in the rushing game, Jake Kuresa said the following:
I would say that Anae and Mendenhall are both anti-Freshman. They don't want to put in guys who haven't earned it.

I would point out that BYU has played the 3rd most freshmen of any school...but whatever.

Re: Best Player vs. Player Who Has "Earned" It
Jake Kuresa is flat out making things up. What he is saying is simply NOT TRUE. I don't want to say he is lying, but what he is saying is categorically FALSE.
I would also point out that on the OL.
- Tejan Koroma is a sophomore who has 22 starts in 22 career games.
- Austin Hoyt is a freshman and has played in 7 of 10 games this year. He has two starts this year.
- Tuni Kanuch is a sophomore who has played in 21 of a possible 23 games. He has five starts this year.
- Ului Lapuaho is a sophomore who has played in 18 of a possible 20 games. He has seven starts this year.
- JJ Nwigwe and Jacob Jimenez are two freshman who have appeared in two games this year.
Our Two-Deep is littered and chock-full of freshmen and sophomores. Even on offense. Here is a list of other FR & SO:
QB Tanner Mangum, Beau Hoge, Koy Detmer
RB: Francis Bernard
DL: Kensi Tausinga, Tomasi Laulile
LB: Fred Warner, Sione Takitaki*
DB: Matt Hadley, Micah Hannemann, Michael Shelton, Jordan Praetor
Additionally, here are other now Juniors and Seniors who played extensively as freshmen and sophomores:
Bronson Kaufusi, Mitch Mathews, Ryker Mathews, Remington Peck, Algernon Brown, Michael Davis, Mitchell Juergens, Harvey Langi, Colby Pearson, Kai Nacua, Travis Tuiloma, Brad Wilcox,

No, no, no, no, no. Brandon Doman was the one who demanded to play Jake Heaps, which was why he was promoted as Ocoordinator when Anae left and was then fired after running Heaps off. You should all know this.Gunk wrote:And...Jake Heaps

Either way, both Bronco and Anae bought off on playing Heaps as a freshman. Even further proof that Kuresa has no idea what he's talking about when he says those two coaches are anti-freshman. It's completely wrong.frdbtr wrote:No, no, no, no, no. I know, I was really just kidding. I was regurgitating the rumors that were flying all over the place during that very dark time in cougar historySpiffCoug wrote:Either way, both Bronco and Anae bought off on playing Heaps as a freshman. An interesting thought and maybe this deserves it's own thread, but which era was darker in BYU history, the Jake Heaps years or the Gary Crowton years?frdbtr wrote:I know, I was really just kidding.
