I'm curious if KS cannot lure Detmer to BYU to coach quarterbacks if Brandon Doman ever has a chance to come back. Or even if he would. Brandon Doman was a very good recruiter, is here now, understands BYU and could work well in the right situation. I don't think he ever gelled well with CBM, but I don't know if it was just their personalities or what.

Tuiake looks like a solid hire, but maybe not the homerun people were hoping for. If Sitake wants to have some control over the defense, it makes sense for him to name a DC who has worked under him before and who knows what he wants.

My most immediate concern is how this affects 2016--it's no secret that outside of Tuiloma and Kaufusi the DL cupboard is pretty bare depth-wise. Kaufusi is gone, and as of mid-season this year, Tuiloma was looking to the NFL draft as well. By contract, BYU has an embarrassment of riches at the LB position.

Sitake and Tuiake are 4-3 defense disciples, but they are inheriting at roster built around a 3-4 base. One--is the long-term plan to convert BYU to a 4-3 defense (I don't know that BYU can recruit the secondary needed to support a 4-3), and if so, what is the game plan in 2016 with the murderer's row schedule? Do we begin the conversion before we have an ideal roster, or do we stick to the 3-4?

Again, this is an unanswerable question, but something to pay attention to--do they adapt themselves to the 3-4 with which they are less familiar but BYU has shown a history of recruiting well, or do they transition the scheme with which they are familiar, and in either case, how does the adjustment go?

The question of 4-3, 3-4 will be interesting, but at the same time Bronco came from a 3-3-5 system, but he ended up changing his system to fit the players that he had, and that worked out pretty well. We'll see what happens here.

True, it worked out schematically, but Bronco went to the 3-4 to fit the personnel he could recruit, and the Cougarback guys on the roster just got moved to OLB spots. Scheme-wise, it was new and worked out, but the personnel needs/availability drove that decision.

To go to 4-3, it's not as easy to take some ILBs on the roster and convert them to DT.

Which means, IMO, that BYU is going to need to recruit some JC Dlineman if they plan on going with a 4-3 defense next year.
