He will join the football team and then play basketball once the football season is over.

Re: Kaufusi is officially on both football and basketball teams
I think it's a good move for him and the teams. He was not becoming our go to center and with Mika coming back would likely still be a backup. He will still be able to be a benefit to the BBall team, we can definitely use depth like that as well as benefitting the football team. He will possibly make an immediate impact on the d-line.
One other advantage for Rose is it will free up a scholarship for the BBALL team as the scholarship comes from the earliest sport you play (I believe thats how it works). The football team on the other hand might have to cut one more person. Maybe his case is different though, since he will be a junior in BBall and a sophomore in football.

Agreed, but he wasn't becoming the master of basketball, but he can still be a benefit to the team. He'll probably be a good backup for us on BBall team and still have plenty of time to perfect his craft on the gridiron.snoscythe wrote:

I like it. Football is where he is best suited, IMO, but basketball seems to be a great part-time job for tall BYU football players (at least those named Kaufusi).

Corbin's body is not football ready. He's been training to be a basketball player for 2 years now. He is tall and thin. I actually don't like this, he needs to bulk up for football which will make him slower on the bb court. IMO, he needs to pick one and stay with it.

How often do we see a 6'10" defensive end in football?

Who are we to think we know better?
This dude + 25-40 pounds becomes a legit defender keeping the likes of The big bearded dude from Gonzaga off the blocks.
At 6'10" he's not likely to play in NFL, but who knows. And his skills aren't good enough to play in NBA as is. And maybe not at an athletic 270. But those dudes have heart, warrior minds and good fricken on him for going after his dreams.

It will be interesting to see how he owns out as a 6' 10" DE. It just doesn't exist. It will be a curiosity and something talked about a lot during the season. If he beefs up and keeps his speed he can help our football team. Beyond that it will just be interesting to see how his unique size and skills fit in further down the road. How would he be as a tight end? He would be a very difficult guard for any LB or DB

Corbin Kaufusi is a not very good basketball player who only slightly improved after 2 years dedicated to it. Time to cut basketball entirely and focus on football full time. Still has a small chance to make something there.
