Re: Big Day Today
I apologize if it was already stated earlier (I guess I am being lazy). This is just a thought (a gut feeling). I think it is possible that what ended up happening was that the expansion clause blind sided ESPN and Fox. I think they may have told the B12 no way and they have been pressuring the B12 to not expand. At least not until the clause was addressed. Now it has been addressed (and removed). I think the conference may now go back to considering expanding. But I think this time they will do it quietly. I would not be very surprised if they do so in the next month or so. I can see the TV partners now encouraging it and actually giving input. Because now they won't be looking at having to pay more than what the added teams are worth. Now it will just be adding more options and content. And the short part that I saw left me with a feeling that this may not be done. Personally I don't care. I have been avoiding it all together but when I match that feeling with the realization that they still want or need the championship game, it seems evident to me that they will expand. By how many who knows, but if they try to hold a championship game with just the 10 and after everyone has already played each other, they will be taking a huge chance of being left out of the playoffs. So it just seems logical to me that they do it but I think they have learned a huge lesson and will probably do it quietly. Personally, I really don't care, I love BYU football and I will whether they are B12 or Indy. I just don't want them going to a G5 conference.

Change to what extent? Altering the wording of the Honor Code, which you have to admit would be an exercise in futility and won't satisfy it's critics, or something even beyond that?bamf3000 wrote:As another person that went to BYU, I'm with this guy.Mars wrote:To be fair, there are many people like myself who did go to BYU who are advocating change.a1247 wrote:I've never been a fan of the honor code, but it's not for me to judge it I didn't go to BYU. Re: Big Day Today
Big12 said expansion is off the table. ISU president said he thinks they pick up some PAC12 teams in a few years. Nothing will happen until they strike out and OU threatens to leave.

I think they're kidding themselves. What PAC-12 teams would go to the BIG-12? None that I can think of.scott715 wrote:Big12 said expansion is off the table. Re: Big Day Today
UCLA and USC are very unhappy with the new Pac12 TV deal. Carriage issues mean less exposure and less money for the two national brands in the conference compared to what they enjoyed prior. Everyone else in the conference is doing better, even with those issues, but if the Pac12 Network doesn't take off, it could reach a tipping point in LA land.KingCoug wrote:I think they're kidding themselves. Geographically, Colorado fits better with Big12 than Pac12 ... and the Big12 could always use another doormatKingCoug wrote:I think they're kidding themselves. The honor code should be no different then the temple recommend questions. Right now, you can be worthy to enter the holiest places on earth but not "worthy" to attend BYU.bamf3000 wrote:As another person that went to BYU, I'm with this guy.Mars wrote:To be fair, there are many people like myself who did go to BYU who are advocating change.a1247 wrote:I've never been a fan of the honor code, but it's not for me to judge it I didn't go to BYU. Supposedly BYU students in the 70s asked/drafted the HC. It's since morphed into what it is now, complete with a governing body. If the HC was born out of the student body, I say every 10-15 years let the student body amend it.

The same is true for missionaries and I think BYU students are viewed more in that light. General Authorities, missionaries and church school students act as very visible faces for the church and all are held to standards more restrictive than the temple.Gunk wrote: The honor code should be no different then the temple recommend questions. As for students amending the Honor Code, students may not get a say in whether or not to change the Honor Code, but they all get a chance to agree with it before they ever arrive at BYU. It isn't sprung on anyone.
