The goals for BYU are:

1. To achieve the highest ranking possible
2. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl team possible
3. To win as many games as possible
4. To be better than Utah

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU (7-4) over Utah St. (3-8)

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah

Colorado over Utah

C. Hold your nose and cheer for the MWC in nonconference play. Also cheer for the better team in conference matchups. Root for Boise not to go to a NY6 game. The stronger the conference the stronger our bowl opponent will be.

Air Force (8-3) over Boise St. (10-1)
Wyoming (8-3) over New Mexico (7-4)
SDSU (9-2) over Colorado St. (6-5)

D. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS which helps our overall ranking.

Arizona (2-9) over Arizona State (5-6)
UCLA (4-7) over Cal (4-7)
West Virginia (8-2) over Iowa State (3-8)
Toledo (9-2) over Western Michigan (11-0)
Michigan State (3-8) over Penn State (9-2)
Mississippi State (4-7) over Ole Miss (5-6)
Cincinnati (4-7) over Tulsa (8-3)
UMass (2-9) over Hawaii (5-7)

E. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked ahead of BYU cheer for the higher ranked (Of course rules A-D trump rule E).

#6 Wisconsin over Minnesota (others receiving votes)
#11 Louisville over Kentucky

#16 Nebraska over Iowa (others receiving votes)
Vanderbilt over #17 Tennessee
Memphis over #20 Houston
Rice over #24 Stanford
SMU over #25 Navy
#22 (AP) Texas A&M over #25 (AP) LSU
Virginia over Virginia Tech (others receiving votes)

NC St. over #25 (coaches) North Carolina
UCF over South Florida (others receiving votes)
East Carolina over Temple (others receiving votes)

Duke over Miami (others receiving votes coaches poll)

F. Root for scenarios where there are as many 5+ loss teams as possible to help a 9-4 BYU team finish ranked (Unless it violates rules A-E)
