BYU vs Utah

Post by KingCoug »

BYU opens up as a 1 1/2 point favorite. Some others have said they've seen 2 or 3 points. Basically a toss up with at most BYU getting the standard few points for home field.

One thing I liked amongst that pathetic display yesterday was Sitake's post game comments. I'm hoping he lights a fire under the coaches' and player's collective yewts this week and it translates into us seeing a different team this Saturday.

One of the lines I saw had BYU +3.5. For those who don't know how sports gambling works (like me) that means that that casino expects BYU to lose by 3.5 points.

BYU should not be a favorite in the Utah game

I agree. BYU should never be favored to beat Utah again until they have proven they can do it at least once.

I am hoping for something to happen this week that brings out the aggressiveness of BYU football again. That passive play from Saturday was maddening. I can't and will never "put my money" on the utes. Just not in my nature. I will keep rooting for this team but unless something changes, I don't have much hope that they will beat any of the good teams on this years schedule.

One can look at the link below (scroll down towards the bottom to find the BYU vs Utah odds.) BYU is a 1 or 1 1/2 point favorite depending on the bookmaker. Like I said before, home teams typically are given an automatic 3 points when the odds are figured but even that's been cut in half here. Essentially a toss up with the odds makers A) not having many games to go on, and B) figuring the action will be relatively even on both sides with it being a rivalry game. Odds are based on how they feel the betting public perceives things and the line could move as the week goes on if too much action comes down on one side.

Betting on the yewts would put some small positive spin on another terrible loss, if the game shakes out that way. It doesn't sound like the worst coping mechanism in the world. BYU losing and losing money betting on the Cougars to win would be a double kick to the nuts.

This almost assuredly will be a u of u win. Why? Because I'll be in the stands. I've seen a half dozen BYU Utah games at LES and never been there for a BYU victory.

If BYU is down at halftime I will confess to being "jonah" and will allow LES ushers to throw me from the top of the stadium in order to right the ship.

Like many others on the CougarCorner, I don't like getting kicked in the nuts twice either :bug:

After the offense's underperformance, I am wondering if BYU could even HAVE a close game with Utah. I support my Cougs through and through, and if BYU puts together an amazing turnaround from last week to this one, I would say this team and coaches are capable of anything. A snap of the Max Hall curse, and a solid performance on the field would do wonders for the program.

I never gamble either (aside from two hands in blackjack in Vegas where I broke even) and I would have a hard time putting money on the Cougs. It is the type of program that will never be a perennial powerhouse a la Alabama, yet they knock off enough good ones, often enough, that you never know. If BYU finds a way to turn it around, taking down the school up north, then builds momentum for the rest of the season, part of me is like, well yeah, duh. This is why I love BYU.
