Re: Latest on Conference Realignment
It definitely sounds like Texas and Oklahoma are going to inform the Big 12 that they will not renew their grant of media rights beyond the current 2025 agreement and begin to work towards a transition to the SEC which will go from 14 to 16 teams. Once that is official, it will be interesting to see what the other P5 conferences do in response. Speculation is that the other 3 conference could pick from the remaining Big 12 members until the Big 12 collapses. Or they could try and backfill to survive. It looks like there may be a race to 4 16-team P5 conferences when all is said and done.

Oklahoma and Texas officials are not currently on the Big 12 call w/league ADs & CEO’s, sources told
@Stadium. Perhaps another sign, OU & Texas have decided to leave for SEC

Note to Self: I will not believe that BYU will join a P5 coference until it actually happens. That way I will not have to prepare myself for the inevitable disappointment.

Re: Latest on Conference Realignment
Texas sources are now confirming the move.
BREAKING: #Texas and #Oklahoma - the founding members of the
@Big12Conference - are leaving the league, sources tell http://Horns247.com.
Prominent Big 12 source tells the American-Statesman the Texas-OU move to the SEC is almost done. "They've been working on this for a minimum of 6 months, and the A&M leadership was left out of discussions and wasn't told about it." Move could become official in a week.

Re: Latest on Conference Realignment
Ok, Texas and Oklahoma made it official this morning.
https://www.espn.com/college-sports/sto ... dia-rights
Texas and Oklahoma officially notified the Big 12 on Monday that they will not be renewing their grants of media rights following expiration in 2025, the schools said in a joint statement.
"Providing notice to the Big 12 at this point is important in advance of the expiration of the conference's current media rights agreement," the statement said. "The universities intend to honor their existing grant of rights agreements. However, both universities will continue to monitor the rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape as they consider how best to position their athletics programs for the future."

Re: Latest on Conference Realignment
You don't have to worry about BYU joining a P5 in all of this conference realignment because there will not be a P5 after this is all said and done. The Big12, if it does nothing, will not retain P5 membership. It's been reported that their TV revenue will likely drop from $37m/year to $4-$7m/year. Adding a few G5 teams will not change that, even adding a P5 caliber BYU will not change that. Their only hope at this point is to convince USC, UCLA, Oregon and BYU to join them. But what motivation would they have for that?
BYU will remain independent.
BYU will remain independent.
