That is how it works. Throw a bunch of times, then pop a run. And everyone here knows that if Anae kept running it on 1st down, Blue would be the first one to mention that his grandmother could predict the play calling.

It is not like BYU was not having success moving the ball. Turnovers killed the drives. Missed field goal killed one. Now before someone suggests that the 5th string RB would be less likely to fumble, recall that he, too, fumbled. Luckily his went out of bounds.

And after UNR was suddenly up by 14, the clock became a factor. When the clock becomes a factor, you are going to throw more.

It would not have shocked me if we found out Carter sprained an ankle ;) Everyone else did.

If BYU was not moving the ball with the plays that were being called, I would happily criticize Anae for not giving it to Carter a few more times. Anae was calling plays that moved the ball. And, yes, when you throw 60 times, you can surprise them with an occasional run. Note that Anae did just that, until the clock became a factor and it became a track meet.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Just curious Sno. You have posted twice on this thread without really saying anything relevant to the OP.

blue believes the problems this season are due to a poor offense that is making the defense look bad and that play calling by Anae is the root cause.

Do you have an opinion?

I was going to ask how the other running backs did in the 2nd half, but then I remembered that when you get down to the 5th string RB, there is no other RB. We did have a FB. He limped off a couple of times and they shoes him on the sideline getting his thigh attended to. I did notice that the wide open spaces for Stewart to scramble and slide had vanished. Tight end became less of a factor. That was the adjustment. Load up. Cheat up. Make BYU throw long while under pressure.

Here are the 2nd half RB runs.
3rd:
15 yard run on 1st & 10 by Carter
2 yard run on 3rd & 1 by Lasike
5 yard run on 2nd & 10 by Lasike
20 yard run on 1st & 10 by Carter
4 yard run by 1st & 10 by Lasike

4th:
6 yard run on 1st & 10 by Lasike
3 yard run on 2nd & 10 by Lasike.

BYU threw to the TEs twice in the 2nd half - both in the 4th quarter. One was a 6 yard catch on 3rd & 5 by Mahina and the other a 9-yard catch on 4th & 8 by Houk

And of course the fumble by Houk on the lateral pass from Stewart.

Not to mention Stewart ran for 34 yards in the first half on four carries, and ran for 33 yards in the second half on five carries, so that UNR strategy to stack the box to stop his runs paid massive dividends--dropped him all the way from 8.4 ypc to 6.6 ypc.

Stewart did a great job (outside of his fumbles) in rushing when necessary. Although he did have 16 carries, many of them came when scrambling. He showed how effective a QB can be when running when running the ball isn't a primary QB weapon.

Of his 16 carries, six were sacks, but the other 10 attempts went for 3, 12, 10, 9, 4, 3, 5, 9, 12, and 5 yards.

true. And more truth for truth seekers. In the first half, his scrambles, we're into a vast sea of open space and ended with a crisp slide before anyone got close enough to touch him, let alone strip the ball. That is what the adjustment produced. More pressure. More QB contact and hurries. Oh, and two fumbles when the ball was stripped. That should give you a clearer picture.

Just curious. When did the 6 sacks come?
