2013 - Siale Fakailoatonga - TE

Post by byucougar1 »

Siale Fakailoatonga was offered in June, 2011. The 6-4/215 TE doesn't want to commit to a school yet, but is still very interested in BYU. Any word on his rationale for not committing at present - waiting for better offers?

According to Twitter feed from Brandon Gurney:

Utes win first in-state recruiting battle...committed Fakailoatonga (6-4/220 lb TE) from Cottonwood.

Not sure if his decision was based on the log jam at TE position and he sought more playing time, if the Y atmosphere wasn't to his liking or if the new Poly coach from USU had a major impact.

BYU is over. We can't compete against Utah. We should cancel the football program.

I believe that academic qualifications were a stumbling block coupled with the influence of a cousin who is on the team. Hard to compete with that scenario.

Doesn't matter. It's proof that BYU can't compete with Utah when going head-to-head for recruits.

One lost recruit does not make a season. Again, we are talking about fit with the institution. Appears to me that your comment (if not a TIC) is a bit presumptuous - still too early in the season to make a final judgment.

My comments are TIC.

Remember last year when Utah signed Chase Hansen (in large part because he wanted to play QB and BYU had just gotten a commitment from Tanner Mangum - a more highly rated prospect) the local media proclaimed it a HUGE win for Utah and that it signaled the end of BYU's reign as the top dog in recruiting.

Talo Steves now reporting that Siale Fakailoatonga, who earlier committed to Utah, is now reconsidering and open to other options (possibly BYU).

He is coming to Junior day.he felt pressured to committ to Utah. Is praying about the choice. That is the best sign. Rated the #30 TE.

Like the fact that he is feeling the love from coach Lance Reynolds who never stopped recruiting him, as well as appreciating what the Y offers. My concern is that he states repeatedly that he doesn't want to disappoint any of the schools when he makes his final decision - someone is always going to be hurt. Also attending Y Jr. Day camp with teammate WR Inoke Lotuele who had recently committed to UCLA - maybe he will play well enough to get an offer and reconsider as well.
