Students at the basket also have a big effect on selling high-end season tickets. BYU just doubled the number of mid-court season tickets they can sell. Students affecting the game is a nice perk.

Win-win-win
Except for the students, that is. They lose.
Students ought to be thrilled to be at the basket where they can actually affect the game. I honestly don't see how they could be upset about having a bigger effect on the game.
How many games have you watched from right behind the basket? The only times it's thrilling is when the ball-handler is on either sideline on the far side of the court, which is the only time you have a clear view of what's going on.

Being able to actually see the game is much more thrilling than being able to make more noise.

So which do the students want? To watch the game or make noise to effect the game (free throws, etc.)? Seems to me the students are really upset that they no longer have the best seats in the house for next to nothing.

I think we've made it clear what we want. Plus, it's not like we weren't making noise where we were sitting before. I've heard plenty of times that the MC compares favorably in noise and atmosphere to other top notch CBB venues. I have my doubts as to how much the added noise/motion behind the basket really effects opposing players free throws

And why do people keep making a big deal about students getting prime seating for cheap? Is this not a university? What is a university without the students? Is it so horrible to get a little miffed when I get shafted in the name of the almighty dollar? This isn't some corporation or pro-sports organization. It's a school.

If you don't think collegiate athletics (specifically football and men's basketball) aren't money-making endeavors like a corporation or pro sports team, then you haven't been paying much attention to the world of collegiate athletics in the last 20 years.

Agree to disagree. The students aren't really getting the shaft. They're still getting great seats for a great price. They'll still be able to make noise and yell and scream. I honestly don't get what all the brouhaha is about.

I've got to ask again, have you sat right behind the basket and liked it?

I have, that's where our season tickets were. I never had a problem with the seats.

Wish I could have seats again. The only bball game I have gone to since I graduated was the Wooden classic BYU-UCLA.

Yes. My enjoyment of the game (football or basketball) is usually independent of where I'm sitting.
