My brother Nick, will be home tonight. He received a medical release from his mission to deal with an ongoing issue that he had pre-mission

They said it was a PreMission problem, do we know what the concern is?

Actually found info on Elder Emery's blog spot.

He says he has thoracic outlet syndrome. I don't think he'll be playing this season at all if he keeps having complications from that, and definitely not if he has surgery. It probably will be good for him to be around the program for an extra 9 months to get acclimated and understanding the system. My guess is he will grey shirt.

"Elder Emery has recently been dealing with worsening conditions of thoracic outlet syndrome. He has undergone testing and examinations and several doctors and specialists have been consulted about his condition. His mission president, President Stoddard (a medical doctor) and area church medical doctors concluded that he needs to have treatment sooner than later to correct these issues or they will continue to worsen. Elder Emery has been given a medical release and will be returning home on Wednesday, August 6 for treatment which may possibly include surgery. He should make a full recovery and we ask that you remember him in your prayers."

In case you were wondering:

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a rare condition that involves pain in the neck and shoulder, numbness and tingling of the fingers, and a weak grip. The thoracic outlet is the area between the rib cage and collar bone.

Doesn't sound good. Hopefully they get it all straightened out.

Could he not improve the situation at point guard IF he can be healed?

Either rehab or surgery will put him out for this season, but with a pretty good prognosis long term. Or the darker side of me hopes it is a complicated ruse to bring him home off his mission early to shore up the point guard position -- in which case, I hope he's been working out

Surgery will more than likely be needed to permanently fix the issue. As much as I would want him to suit up and at the very least practice with the team, I'm doubtful it will happen. One can hope, though. I'm inclined to believe it was divine intervention. Even if it takes him 6 months to heal, that will still give him more time to get in shape for the 2015/2016 season than if were still on his mission.

Now, what about Mika...

Wrubell says that Emery will likely not even enroll at BYU this year.
