At what point do we Red-Shirt Aytes??

Post by beauso79 »

As of now the only person Rose said they planned on Red-Shirting is Jordan Chatman. This team needs a player like Aytes in the worst way. If we have a chance at the NCAA tournament in February does Rose keep him active even though he probably won't be able to play a game until then?

Since he had surgery and won't really start weight bearing rehab for 3 months, I would say he is out for the season.

Wouldn't you do it the other way around? Redshirt him now. If you need him in February and he is ready pull the redshirt and play him.

That seems to make more sense to me. Plus, as much as going to the post season is a priority this season bringing Aytes back too early could jeopardize next season.

Red Shirts don't have to be decided now. They can decide if this year is a red shirt year for Chatman in 3 years if they want to.

Any of you guys think we'll see Aytes this season? Anybody know how his recovery from surgery is progressing?

Sounds like Rose is still holding out hope he'll play this year and it seems like he is way ahead of schedule. Hopefully could be ready for round 2 of the WCC. It also appears that the 2017-2018 year would be loaded with post players and would be quite the headache for Rose if Aytes was still here.

If Aytes is the beast some people (on here) believe him to be, I'd take him in 2017-2018 and deal with the headache. BYU doesn't get many guys like him. I wouldn't burn this year just to have him play a few games in feb, march. I'd love to know what surgery he had done on his ankle.

If he can help us win some tournament games you have to play him. It would be really valuable to improve the perception of the team. We are still trying to get Frank Jackson to sign.
