I wonder if we can find enough international players who could live the honor code.

That article is dated and has some wrong facts. Tirana is not in Croatia but Albania and there haven't been any good athletes from Albania, in well, ever. And Cosic is ancient news. Any potential recruit BYU could go after would have been born nearly 5 years after Cosic died.

You can't recruit on the ancient past. And touting some player who died years before you were born and played in some far away country before your parents were born isn't going to be much of a factor.

What BYU should do is get the Brazilian connection back going again.

Pick up the phone give Araujo, Lemmes or JT a call.

All you said about Cosic is true, except he is literally that area's Michael Jordan. There's been a documentary about him fairly recently.

I do think there is a major flaw in a lot of this though. Most European players want to play pro ball. It's actually a much easier path to go through the European club teams than it is through college. Let's face it, college men's basketball kind of sucks. The shot clock is too long. Too many time outs. Coaches control way too much. The short 3 point line makes the game too compact. None of those problems really exist in the European club leagues.

NBA execs would probably wonder what's wrong with a guy if he wants to come play NCAA ball.

You're missing something vitally important. The reason for attending BYU is to receive an education. The athletics is a bonus, and a way to pay for the tuition, etc. If a player is worthy of making it to the NBA, they are going to get there.

Recruiting of players from Europe would need to focus on the opportunity to attend a great institution, combined with the opportunity to play great basketball.

Last time I was in Croatia/Slovenia a couple years back, you could still buy Cosic highlight films/documentaries in the street markets. 10 years ago high school kids still knew the name and it carried something. I can't speak as to whether or not it's still true today, but as recently as 2004 his name carried weight in the younger generation.

Albania has not had any athletes since Liam pretty much took them all out in two movies

And how many guys are going to North Carolina because Michael Jordan played there? And Jordan was a UNC a decade more recently than Cosic.

Perhaps Europeans have a longer memory?
