Yes. Either it was brilliant defense vs Waldo or he was just passive compared to the first game. Step one: don't leave your feet unless you want to risk a foul. Check.
Step two: push him to weak hand. Step three: double down with someone (sharp, not Nixon) quick who can recover and get back on own man. Check. Solid game plan.
Two biggest reasons for win: BYU shot over 60% from 3 for most of the game and SMU shot 20%. BYU out rebounded SMU by 12 and in Moraga under by 13. 25 rebound swing. BALLGAME.

The double team's this game felt more purposeful. Like we had specific triggers for specific players. And our guards faking coming down to double frequently. Waldo was getting pushed into his least effective moves.

The St. Mary's game was so last week, so this is old news I know, but I just wanted to say that the win over St. Mary's in Provo was so satisfying given how we lost in Moraga. The Provo game was a solid win. Wish the Cougs played that well every game. That type of win gives me postseason hope. This is from a blurb on the bracketology page -- granted it is from Feb. 3, but seems reasonable given the overall performance this year:

"BYU
The Cougars have Tyler Haws. Isn't that enough? OK, so technically it hasn't been, hence why BYU is 20-8 instead of 28-0. But in a season in which teams and players can neither shoot nor score, the Cougars (and Haws) can do both.

Without much of a resume, BYU understandably remains on the outside of the bracket looking in. But don't discount the Cougars' chances, or maybe more accurately Haws' chance, of getting red hot enough to pull off an upset in the WCC tournament."
