Umm 2 things

1. how sure are we that Emery is going to beat all the upperclassmen guards?

Being strong enough is a really important part of NCAA basketball.

2. You really confused me by spelling Chatman (Chapman.)

Finally I see the rotation more like this:

(KC plays Point Forward on offense)

Emery/Calvert
Fischer/Chatman
KC/Toolson(Seligass may beat him out)
Davis/(Aytes,Hartsock or Shaw whichever one emerges)
Kaufusi/Austin

We don't have enough wing depth or big experienced guards to not play KC their.

Your list: Mostly agree, would like to see KC be able to move to small forward and it would be nice if someone was pushing for some of Fisher's minutes. Overall a pretty deep team for BYU standards with the clear leader/star being KC. Looks like a Gonzaga team....

Um, with all due respect, this team does not look like Gonzaga.
Emery is 5'11 or 6'. he wont be playing the 3. In fact i wonder if he may get point duties when KC is getting breathers. Not sure what that does to the line-up.
And i wouldnt be surprized to see Austin and Kaufusi on floor together or swapping off in the starting line-up at 5. But I would agree that the edge will go to Kusfusi, inasmuch as I expect a pretty significant improvement over last year. He is a rim protector. Nate is more of a help-side defender than a rim protector (loosely speaking).

A zags team in that there is only one real all-star, but enough talent and depth to get the job done night in and night out. Zags pounded us in the conference final with depth at center and the 4. BYU looks like they may actually have the post much more protected this year...

How does that NOT look like a gonzaga team?

Cougs played as a 3 guard team much of last year and had a very high-scoring team (2nd in country). The problem is that they didn't have really good rebounders in front court and they were not good on defense. That will change with the hire of LP coach Quincy Lewis. With Davis and Kafusi, they will get the rebounds as will KC. The other two players: Fisher and Emery can light it up from outside. Throw in a Seljas and improved Toolson (who has a nice stroke), and there are lots of opportunities for 3-pointers to be made. This year the front and backcourt players will have to be defended. The team will be much more balanced in where the scoring will occur.

We are in need of shootinng, consistent shooting.

KC, is not a shooter. Kaufusi, while I am sure will be improved probably won't get us more than 10 pts a night and isn't a guy you can burden the bulk of the offense with. Austin, not much output there offensively either. Davis, perhaps. But that still leaves us without consistent shooting.

Fischer was quite litterally an every other game player last year. Emery is rumored to be a great shooter, but this will be his firstseason of ball in over 2 years. Toolsen, can light it up too but was also inconsistent.

My worry is we will do a 180 from last year. Instead of being weak in the post and strong in shooting, we'll be stronger in the post and weaker from the outside. I suppose if our bigs are collecting boards and our smalls running the court there won't be much need for outside shooting.

Will be a fun year.
