Nate Austin and Medical Redshirt

Post by Fido »

Reportedly Nate Austin is applying for, and expecting to get another year at BYU for medical hardship. If he comes back for next year, he will not be on scholarship.

Rose said today that he was still concerned about Nate's back issues and that the problem could be chronic

Wow that is too bad if Nate's back won't allow him to play.

There are rumors we are pursuing a 5th year Center that's graduating this year. Any clue who this might be? My guess is that if they are it's because the season for Austin next year is likely in doubt due to either chronic injury or lack of a medical red-shirt. Also, Aytes has been seen on campus in a boot again.....hope he can get healed

I believe Aytes had microfracture surgery on his ankle/foot and it sounds like he's not healing very fast.

I read the Rose interview with Greg Wrubel and frankly thinking about the microfracture surgery I don't think Aytes is ever going to play for BYU.

Dang. that's too bad for Aytes. The outcomes for OLT (osteochondral lesions of talus) vary a lot, size of the lesion before the microfracture is the biggest determinant. Hope he has a complete recovery, although at this point he should have made significant progress.
