BYU Basketball and the Cupcake Schedule

Post by hawkwing »

If there were a title for this season it would have to be the Cupcake Season, right?
BYU should own Utah on the hoops court and there's no real excuse for losing any of these other games.

Including the conference season I think a legit BYU team can only afford 2 losses.

Beat Harvard and then get the winner of Auburn/New Mexico and hopefully a good 3rd round game. Hopefully the WCC is up this year.

The other option is win a bunch of games and let KC get even more triple doubles. We should have plenty national attention that way.

I am willing to wait and see how things play out since those are last year's results. I don't know much about any of these teams and expectations for the upcoming season. Utah was a heck of a lot better last year than I thought they would be before the season began. However, I do agree that this schedule on the surface appears to be on the light side.

Not sure why you think we should own Utah? They will be very very good this year, too, and we are playing at Utah....I am likewise not sure we are better this year than last year? We gain some really good players but lost some important scoring. We have never lost just two games in conference, have we? OOC schedule is weaker to be sure, but I'm thinking we lose at least 5-8 games overall. I'd be very pleased with that.

12 RPI games, 8 in the Top 150. It's not horribly awful.

AGreed. Pretty average for BYU basketball. Good enough to get us to the NCAA with no bad losses.

It's a schedule that rewards winning. We don't get any brownie points for playing a big name. We'll get recognition by putting together long winning streaks.
