First Ainge's son drops off the team to focus on academics and now his nephew leaves the program. A scholarship is up for grabs.

Rose doesn't mind helping marginal players move on from the program to free up scholarships.
I wish Jake the best. He's certainly had some struggles.
Don't transfer to Utah.

Shame. I don't like that Andy Toolson's son Conner didn't come to BYU and went with Coach Pope and UVU. Article says BYU recruited him, but could be that they wanted him to walk on.

I'm in the same boat. Given our current roster, he'd have found himself picking up few minutes. The depth would have been nice, but we have plenty guards.SpiffCoug wrote:Rose doesn't mind helping marginal players move on from the program to free up scholarships.

Re: Jake Toolson transferring
BYU needs a shooting forward not another shooting guard. My guess is you're right. Rose probably told him he could walk-on and try to earn a scholarship. Conner would have likely ended up on the end of the bench. He'll start at UVU and get a free education. Smart move.EM_Puma wrote:Shame. I really liked Jake and I don't think I would call him a marginal player. He was still a young player and developing his roll at BYU. By everything I have gathered the coaches would have loved for Jake to stay. But this makes me wonder if BYU goes after Jared Stutzman, who they recruited the same time as Jake. Jake got the offer and Jared signed with San Francisco. Jared just ask for a release from his LOI this February and even has a webpage set up for his recruiting; http://www.jaredstutzman2016.com/
He list himself as a SG but has the size (6' 5" 195) that he could play a SF position. Here is his highlight from his Sr year before his mission; https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... D-40Pol8LU

Interesting... that is two players that knew Pope at BYU and decided to transfer to UVU. Best of luck to Jake but it does put BYU in an interesting position.
