Re: BYU vs SMC
BYU played well, but lost it in overtime. Seemed like our best game against St. Mary's in years.

Re: BYU vs SMC
Tough loss. The win was within reach several times.
We fell apart on defense down the stretch.
Seljas seemed out of it on the court. Haws played tough defense but did little on offense. Going to take more guys stepping up to beat SMC on the road. Rose should have played Dastrup more, IMO.
SMC is our kryptonite. We match up better against Gonzaga. Given our weak schedule, we can't afford many more losses. We may have to win the WCC tourney this season to go dancing.

Re: BYU vs SMC
Last 4 minutes and overtime one of the few times we've seen just ask little bit of panic out of BYU. Quick shots, forced shots, a few turnovers, out of rotation on defense. All symptoms of trying to too hard. Hopefully they let it go and move on.
McKay cannon missing those FTs turned out to be the difference...

Re: BYU vs SMC
Nixon, yes. Shaw, possibly. Neither are in top shape. We needed a bit more hussle out there. Again, it's why I don't understand benching Dastrup. We went up by 10 with Dastrup on the court.vancouvercougar wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2017 6:43 pm Do you think that having Nixon and Shaw or Andrus help us beat the Gaels ?
For some reason, Rose went "small" in the final 10 and in over time. That wasn't the lineup that was beating SMC.
And, yes, Cannon missing both free throws didn't help at all. We had the game right there.

Re: BYU vs SMC
Other than when we dominated them for about 2 years in a row up until last year. I don't care whether they were picked to win the conference or not, BYU should not lose to WCC teams at home. BYU went through the MWC for about 4 years straight without losing to a conference foe at home. This is a disappointing loss.

Re: BYU vs SMC
We lost to them 3 times last year, by 13, 13, and 31 points. We did split with them the two years before. That makes us 2-6 against St. Mary's over the last 4 seasons. Not great. Gonzaga is our better match-ups by far recently.

Re: BYU vs SMC
The game was lost 11 seconds into OT when Yeoli got Landale in the air, drew the contact and the refs swallowed the whistle and didn't foul out SMC's best player.
After that, BYU continued their complete scatter-brain play that was a continuation of how they played the final 5:41 after going up 55-49.
Over the final 5:41, BYU went 1-6 (0-2 from 3) and had 2 turnovers. While SMC when 6-8 (2-4) with 1 TO.
Then in OT, BYU went 2-9 w/ 2 turnovers.
4 of BYU's 12 turnovers came in the final 10 minutes of the game as did 12 of BYU's 25 missed shots. So over the final 22% of the game, BYU committed 33% of their turnovers and had 48% of the shots they missed.
