The Cougars have received the #3 seed in the national tourney and will take on #14 seed Virginia Tech (14-3, 4-1) in the first round.
The only common opponents between the two are Cal Poly and UCSB, both of whom the Hokies lost to and BYU beat. Still, this is one of the more difficult 3 v 14 match ups I've seen.

BYU's youth and inconsistency showed up big in the first round. The Cougars battled neck and neck through the first half, going into the break down 4-5. The second half was plagued by turnovers and BYU had trouble getting anything going, not scoring a single goal in the third quarter and dropping even further behind, 4-8. The fourth quarter wasn't much different, with the Cougars scoring two late, but too late, and dropping the game to end their season prematurely, final score 11-6.
