2013 Colin Marquez - OL
6-5/280
Plans on attending BYU summer camp. Copied article from 24/7 sports:
"Scout.com: What were your stats/honors from last season?
Colin Marquez: "1st team all region."
What is your official height and weight?
"6-5 270."
What is your greatest football memory?
"Playing our rivals Mt. View and beating them 55-14. It was an intense game with a lot of emotion and it felt good to win."
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"What they are every season: to get bigger, faster, and stronger and win a state championship this season."
How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
"Our team trains with Triple Threat Performance for strength and speed and I do lifting on my own. I want to attend the USC and BYU football camps this summer."
What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
"I’ve worked really hard on improving my foot speed and agility. Something I need to keep working on is staying low and keeping a low pad level."
Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
"We have a good team and some depth at all the positions, but Aeron Carr and Mason Thorman are both coming back and I think they’re two you need to watch out for. I also think Cody O'Brien should pick up some major yards at running back this year."
Name one teammate you really respect and why?
"I really respect my quarterback Mason Thorman. He has a tough job, but he does it well and in a way that makes me proud to block for him. He’s a good leader on the field and I’m looking forward to playing with him again."
What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
"I want to play Division 1 football, and start as soon as possible."
Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
"I’ve received some letters of interest from D1 schools but no offers yet."
Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
"I’m keeping all my options open, and I definitely see staying in state as a possibility."
What would your top 5 college choices be?
"USC, Stanford, Alabama, BYU, and Michigan State."
Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?
"Damani Mosby from Desert ridge. He had a tough pass rush and always put up a fight in the run game."
Name one opponent who you really respect and why?
"Alex Barrett also from Desert Ridge. He came hard every play, no matter what happened the play before and always gave a good fight."
What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
"My best bench was 280, my squat was 401, I’m not sure about power clean and my best 40 was a 5.5."
How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
"I think he’d describe me as a hardworking and intelligent player who is plain nasty and mean on the field."
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
"My strengths are that I’m aggressive, have good footwork, and football knowledge. Weaknesses are my pad level and and punching while in a pass set."
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
"Matt Kalil from USC. He’s a great left tackle and plays the way I want to when I get there."
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"To buy into the program and keep on grinding no matter how hard it gets. Then he told me to always play with aggression, and if you’re going to fail, do it at 100%."
Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
"We’ll be a strong team that will have a good chance at going deep into the playoffs this season."
What can a college program expect from you as a player?
"A college program can expect me to be a hardworking player on and off the field. They can also expect me to be a student of the game."
What is your GPA and SAT/ACT score?
"My GPA is a 3.8 and I got a 1720 on the PSAT."
What will the main factors be when you choose a school?
"Winning tradition, facility and academics.""
