The WNBA Blows
I have a friend in the athletic department at Baylor, and in a conversation yesterday I mentioned how cool it was that Britney Griner won pretty much everything she could last year, but she still came back for her senior year and to get her degree. When I said that, he basically called me stupid. His points:
- she will receive over $45,000 in aid from Baylor over the next year, with almost zero expenses.
- on the WNBA rookie wage scale she would make less than $40,000 and then have to pay taxes etc out of that.
-after her first 2 years, she's be capped at $95,000 a year until she retires or the league folds.
- the WNBA retirement plan sucks compared to mens'. It's a 401K with 25% matched.
In sum, the only intelligent choice is to stay in school and get a degree, because you won't be retiring off of hoops coin, and in the instance of Baylor, you're losing money any year you skip when you look at value.

Re: The WNBA Blows
I don't know anyone in any athletic department anywhere. I've never seen any info on WNBA salaries or compared them with any college player aid. I know the WNBA blows, and all I did was watch part of a game.
I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

Re: The WNBA Blows
And even paying players only 95k per year, teams still lose millions of dollars per year. When the WNBA started, the best women players still played in Europe because they got paid more over there. Some would play the shortened WNBA season and then still go play overseas.
The reason why Larry H Miller refused to keep the Starzz in SLC wasn't because he was against the WNBA, he just couldn't afford to lose millions of dollars a year on a team he didn't own (all the teams were-maybe still are-owned by the league) and didn't really have total control over.

Re: The WNBA Blows
I love the "Subject." It's one of the most accurate and right on subject titles that I have seen.
Not putting the lady basketball players down - just being honest. They are very difficult to watch and enjoy from a professional, athletic point. They are slow and really can't jump. Sorry ladies.
It's my understanding that the NBA teams heavily subsidize the WNBA. Otherwise, they would dry up and blow away like dust. Nobody cares about watching them, attendance is in the toilet. From a fan point of view, irrelevant.
So - I'll jump on the bandwagon and agree 125% - the WNBA Blows like a gale force hurricane.

And the best player in the game is likely a hermaphrodite.
BYU PER W/L Since 1972: 432-76 (.850)
(8.4xYDS)+(330xTD)+(100xCOM)-(200xINT)
