And there's one point in the story that certainly seems to imply that his parents indicated they had met her in Hawaii.Isola wrote:Great tweet by Jennings. He is quite funny.
As for OP, I don't know how this can be a hoax on Manti. He claims they met in person and that she would visit him in Hawaii.
I could understand...no that is the wrong word...I suppose it could be possible to be duped by emails, texts, tweets and even phone calls, although you would have to be really really stupid, but there is no way he was duped by visits in Hawaii from someone who never existed. And the person he was meeting would have to look like the pictures of a completely different person. Not possible.
"They started out as just friends," Te'o's father, Brian, told the Tribune in October 2012. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there."

Didn't Lark's girlfriend die while he was on his mission?

Maybe it was imaginary beer he was drinking on his BYU recruiting trip.

ESPN is reporting the story with no skepticism at all of Notre Dame's press release and Te'o's statement.

Oh great, I guess I have to come clean...I am not really related to Chuck Norris - but give me about seven layers of family history and I might connect to Kevin Bacon.

So, who was Teo on the phone with then? Teo issued a statement and he says he chatted with the "girl" online and spoke to her on the phone. Who was he talking to?
He's in on it.

Seriously, how could they not even mention several reports of them meeting face to face?tripwire wrote:ESPN is reporting the story with no skepticism at all of Notre Dame's press release and Te'o's statement.

ND and Teo are probably hoping this all blows over quickly before the major news outlets jump on it, but I don't think internet will let itTe'o and Kekua meet after Stanford's 45-38 victory over Notre Dame in Palo Alto, according to the South Bend Tribune: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes." Kekua, a Stanford student, swaps phone numbers with Te'o.

Too late: I just walked into the hall in my building and saw the story on CNN in another office.

Not to mention he held to the story that he visited her in the hospital as recently as January 6th.
