Slow WHAT white guy WHAT
For years we have been hearing about how BYU only gets slow white guys and so we have to outexecute in order to win. This comment on pro-days
Matthews may not be blazing, but that is certainly not considered slow. OF course, his was our best time, so the rest of our WR are going to be slower than that. But Sorenson was the fastest athlete in the combine. That is no where near slow white guy. Talent is a-changin at the Y. Lookin good.
says different.Quote
Sorensen turned heads with his exceptional NFL Combine performances in the 20-yard shuttle run and three-cone drill. His times were the best by any athlete at the combine. Noted for his good hands at the combine, Sorensen also completed his defensive back drills catching every ball thrown his way in front of the live scouts at Pro Day.
The fastest times posted in the 40-yard dash were from Mathews (4.52), Sorensen (4.55) and Falslev (4.59). Mathews’ time tied the 2014 Combine average for wide receivers. Mathews also had the best vertical jump at 34.5 inches, while Sorensen had the best broad jump at 122 inches (10-foot-2). The fastest 20- and 60-yard shuttle times went to Hadley with 4.20 and 11.20 seconds, respectively. Falslev and Wilson each completed the 20-yard shuttle in the 4.2 range as well. Unquote

Our fastest guy was AVERAGE. The others, therefore are below average. And the guys above average are not from BYU.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Fastest in shuttle. I would say quickest in shuttle, average in 40. 40 isn't everything. And shuttle speeds are going to get Danny drafted. Otherwise, he wouldn't be drafted.

it likely will get him drafted. Late round. Possibly last round. Otherwise he will get a look and sign as an undrafted free agent.Cougs_Rule wrote:Fastest in shuttle. Aks the Raiders or Jets* how important 40 times are. BTW its been reported that Jerry Rice and Chris Carter ran no better than a 4.6. Of course neither panned out either .
(*Jets passed on Emmit Smith to draft RB Blair Thomas and his 4.4 instead of Emmit's 4.7)
Or you could ask Andre Smith about the 40 - Some things just shouldn't even be on YouTube!
One of most tired Draft Day jokes: W hen Raiders are picking "So who's the fastest player available?"

There is a difference between having the being the best of the average and having the best average. In this case, the average is talking about taking the events he participated in and then averaging them. His average was the best. Sounds fast to me no matter how it's sliced and diced.Cougarbib wrote:

His 40 time was the fastest of his teammates in Provo on Pro Day - but equaled the average of all athletes from all schools IN THE COMBINE a couple of weeks ago - in other words average for players WITH REALISTIC HOPES to get drafted.urroner wrote:There is a difference between having the being the best of the average and having the best average. All fine and good. Are you predicting that Matthews, Sorensen, or Falslev will go on to be all-pro?imuakahuku wrote:Aks the Raiders or Jets* how important 40 times are. BTW its been reported that Jerry Rice and Chris Carter ran no better than a 4.6. Of course neither panned out either .

"Average for players hoping to get drafted" would be the mean of all collegiate football players---FBS, FCS, D-III etc, etc, etc.Cougarbib wrote:His 40 time was the fastest of his teammates in Provo on Pro Day - but equaled the average of all athletes from all schools in the combine a couple of weeks ago - in other words average for players hoping to get drafted.
Running the average speed at the NFL combine is running the average speed for what the NFL views to be prospective NFL players--the elite.
Just figuring FBS players alone, there are 120 FBS schools, each with 85 scholarships, so let's estimate there are 10,200 (120*85) FBS players, of which 1/4 are NFL eligible at the end of the season--that's 2,550 players NFL eligible after 2013. The combine invited 335 eligible players to participate in the combine--the 335 they thought we best prepared for the NFL. That's just over 13%, and that's not including FCS and D-III athletes invited or eligible--factor in either of those, and the percentage gets smaller and smaller.
At worst, Sorenson ran the average 40 time for what the NFL views as the top 13% of collegiate players.

Fixed it. I thought we all understood that the combine is an exclusive invitation only event and not even all of those get drafted.
