As much as I would love to see BYU in the Big 12, I just can't convince myself it will happen. Maybe its because we've been kicked in the nuts so much as a BYU fan.

That said, if it DOESN'T happen, I think that you'll eventually see BYU grab BSU, and jointly join the AAC. Which would be OK, depending on which AAC teams end up in the Big 12 (if/when they expand, and if the Big 12 doesn't take BYU).

Also, I could see some of these monster conferences start to implode due to infighting/money sharing issues, especially if future TV contracts aren't as big as they have been...

For the most part, I've enjoyed the ride through independence, and I'd take staying independent over anything other than Big XII or Big Ten (I'd take the SEC, too, but that ain't happening). I love playing lots of big-name teams from lots of different parts of the country; it has been, hands-down, so much more fun as a fan. Even the also-rans and creampuffs are more fun, because it's not the same ones year-in and year-out.

I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

That brings up the question, could the AAC become a power conference again?

They are currently the incarnation of the WAC. Bunch of fun teams to watch that are just outside power status.

It ticks me off because there are A LOT of teams on all the P5 conferences that are no better than A LOT of G5 teams.

That is true, if they formed a conference with 3 top 25 teams, they could compete with the P5. The MWC had 3 and they were on the verge of BCS status. The bottom though were dregs.

No. The P5 aren't about to expand their influence and control. The move to the Bowl Alliance to the Bowl Coalition to the Bowl Championship Series to the Power 5 has been about consolidation of power, influence and revenue; not sharing it.

Once you lose that standing or are kicked out of the group, there is no getting it back.

Really long article but thinks outside the box. He likes BYU. Different scenarios for FB and BB.

Under the conditions he describes (Big 12 honoring the no Sunday play stance, the conference working to improve their conference image, etc.), I don't think BYU would have an issue with giving up tier 3 rights to games that are on BYU tv to allow the league content to fall to the Longhorn network turned BIG12 network instead. I could see BYU trying to get rebroadcast rights to games but that would be a separate negotiation I'd think. And I totally think if the no Sunday play was honored, BYU would join in all sports.
