I sincerely hope TH didn't even think about calling KWhitt.
Leach ain't coming as much as I would like it. He has a good thing going WSU.

Only good that would come from a KWhit hire would be the chaos and gnashing of teeth from the SNOT.

I can't tell if folks are just horribly myopic, totally deluded, or arrogantly BYu-centric to think that Whitt would stoop so low (as he would see it) and come to BYU. Why on earth would fans think for a minute that he would want to. KWhitt is a BYU Son of perdition. He ain't coming back. There is no turning back. There is an easier chance for Reid coming and that ain't a world away remote chance of happening. This is clearly a "level of education" thing. Why am I wasting my time.

Kwitt's advantage would be the damage to Utah's program. Next best is Anderson to hurt Stanford's recruiting in Utah. I want to get the best coach for us but would also like to lessen the competition that we face to give us an edge.

As has been documented, KWhitt's defense is what has stifled BYU for many years in the rivalry game. Take him out of that situation, whether to BYU or another school, and perhaps we have better results in that game. Of course, taking him just to do better in the rivalry is silly. He is a good coach though. Results say he is about even with Bronco, but with a few higher highs, and some lower lows.

I don't believe it's silly to imagine Kyle Wittingham being courted by Byu.
1. He is a good coach
2. Byu Alum
3. Friends with Tom Holmoe who offered him once before
4. active LDS
5. Had clashed with Dr. Hill over his contract at Utah
6. Utah fans getting lukewarm about Kyle elevating their program.
7. Could leave Utah and and still coach D1 football in the State=easy on family, wife, friends etc. Probably could keep the same house if he wanted.
Obviously there are the downsides of about 1 million a year pay cut and Byu being non P5. Really though he is the most qualified/proven guy for the job imo. I'm guessing Tom Holmoe called Kyle 1st.

And when Kyle refuses, Holmoe uses the Force to electrocute him, until he is hurled down a questionably placed reactor vent? Seriously, this scenario is just like The Return of the Jedi in reverse, and I'm guessing would be about as successful.stgeorgefan wrote:I don't believe it's silly to imagine Kyle Wittingham being courted by Byu.

If the yewts take the field and there are no BYU fans to pour beer on, will anybody come?

You're probably right! I just don't think it would stop Tom from trying anyway.

Re: Rumorboard link reports Kilane Sitake is being interview
I would suspect you're right on Andy Reid being the first call, but more out of respect and maybe to ask about Bevell and Whittingham.SpiffCoug wrote:I expect the first four phone calls Holmoe made are to:
- Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs HC
- Darrell Bevell, Seattle Seahawks OC
- Ken Niumatalolo, Navy HC
- Kyle Whittingham, Utah HC
Others who will for sure be given at least an interview (or asked to interview):
- Robert Anae, BYU OC
- Lance Anderson, Stanford DC
- Kalani Sitake, Oregon St DC
Next call to Kyle, out of respect to his friend and to ask about Kalani.
Next call to Ken Niumatolo. He's the next high profile HC who is Mormon. This call goes a little more in depth than previous 2, but probably snags if (as has been reported) Ken N insists on running the option.
The next call is to Sitake, followed by Anderson. Then Jay Hill and any other lower level HC, or any other LDS coach out there.
Holmoe probably talked with Anae last Friday by walking down the hall.
You bring 3 guys in for real interviews.
If BYU doesn't announce by Friday, Ken N is still a possibility.
