MWC must move now to replace Utah. Maybe raid a team like Houston or Tulsa from C-USA.

BYU PER W/L Since 1972: 432-76 (.850)
(8.4x
YDS)+(330xTD)+(100xCOM)-(200xINT)

Well, in just 10 days the MWC has taken a huge leap forward followed by a stumble backward. While I think that losing the Utes to the PAC-10 will weaken the conference, it will probably help BYU reach the BCS in a backward sort of way. I simply don't see Utah finishing higher than #3 or so in the PAC from year to year, but BYU now has an easier path to the MWC conference championship, which may still be an AQ conference when realignment occurs.

This makes the rivalry game much more important, now, since we have a bit of a chip on the shoulder.

Utah only helps the MWC reach the BCS if we get to count their BCS numbers. Which we would only get to do if they don't go to the PAC-10 until 2012 like Colorado. If for some odd reason they leave for 2011, then we don't get to count them.

Yup. Utah is meeting on Thursday, accepting the invite by Friday at the latest.

This guy says it best:

"Colorado brings little to the Pac-10. No baseball, no softball, no swimming, a basketball team that averaged 6,267 fans and almost no new money. Utah would bring even less. The Utes wouldn't help to solve the raging financial crisis at Oregon State, Wazzu and ASU.

We take it on good faith that Scott has more to his expansion tour/marketing outreach than Colorado and Utah. We take it that the presidents and chancellors of the Pac-10 didn't give Scott all of that power merely to add teams with less presence than Oregon State.

The Pac-10 can use a bump in glamour, and especially one at the bank, but I don't see how Colorado or Utah can help either. I'm aware of the negative variables and politics about adding BYU, but the Cougars have a history, a brand and a presence that neither Utah nor Colorado can touch."

Utah has a press conference at RES tomorrow at 1pm, and it will be official then.

All I can say is that this places me firmly on the BSU bandwagon for 2010. They need to run the table, get a BCS bid, and a shot at the title game. TCU also needs to run it and get in the BCS in 2010. BYU needs to make a run at it in 2011. And if those things happen, it will be damn near impossible to not let the MWC in come 2012.
