Loge Seating

Post by 1967cougar »

I lucked out this weekend - I mean really really lucked out. I got a few tickets in the Loge seating area. I've never been in one of those places. I never even been close enough to think about smelling what it might be like. I've never even known anyone who has been close enough to think about what it might be like. I've been on a cloud since I found out yesterday.

So my question to any of you who might have had this blessed opportunity (I mean, this is like the highest degree in the Celestial Kingdom) is this: What kind of experience am I about to have?

Give me the tickets. I'll go and do some recon work AND report to you, my first hand account of this "Fairy tale" place.

I've never been in the Loge at LES. When I graduated from college and started working in Cleveland for a public accounting firm, it seemed like all of the clients had tickets to loges that they were giving out. I saw the Browns, Indians, Cavs and the Cleveland Crush (a now defunct professional indoor soccer team) in the loges and it was sweet because they had great food and it was awesome to have a TV inside to see plays better than you can often see them on the stadium replay screens and that was before they had wide screen and HD. You never worried about the temperature because it had heat/air when you needed it.

I'm only about 13 rows from the top the west side this season, so I'm not far below. I was actually looking up at the people last home game thinking, "It'd be nice to watch a game from up there some time." I know a lot of BYU fans, but I can honestly say I have never spoke to someone who watched the game from up there (except Elder Perry, but I didn't ask him about his experience). I'm sure someone out here has.

I had for a couple of seasons a connection that allowed me to sit in a loge a couple of times. It was pretty nice especially on a cold day. As for atmosphere, I would describe it as being at the game but not in the game. You can hear the fan cheering kind of through the glass but it is not a feeling of being in the crowd.
The best part for me was the ice cream sundaes that you can order around halftime. We would fill out a little paper with what ice cream and toppings, and after halftime they would bring them in. I am sure someone had to pay for them but they were very good.

Probably the best fun was when we were on the elevator headed up, it was me, my wife, and Lavell Edwards. Got to shake his hand which was cool.

This is pretty much my experience as well. It was awesome getting the ice cream and having all the room you want on nice chairs. And the feeling of being better then everybody else was pretty cool.

The downside is that you don't really feel like you're a part of the game like billbill mentioned. You kind of feel like you have to be quiet which sucks. It was a great experience for one game but if I had to do that week in and week out I would hate it.

Speaking of which I know a guy who got a job that requires him to sit in the loge. He's kind of a big whig at BYU. He says he hates it and misses sitting with the crowd. His wife loves it because it is climate controlled.

I have the option of sitting in the Loges or outside for every home game. I typically sit in the loge about 1 or 2 games each season and that's only because I allow somebody else (usually family from out of town) sit in my seats on the outside "with the people." Otherwise I’ll sit outside EVERY TIME.

As other posters have indicated, sitting in the loge has its perks.... TV replays, Greg Wrubell play-by-play, ice cream sundaes at the end of the 3rd quarter, and of course climate control (specifically in cold weather games).

The food services for the loges has declined over the years to the point that I now feel the options throughout the stadium are as good as, and in most case better than the loge dining options (and less expensive).

The loge experienced would be GREATLY enhanced if there wasn’t glass separating you from the crowd. It’s like looking out the window of your house cheering for something a block away—almost like watching live action TV. The game atmosphere is definitely missing and this is my primary reason for preferring to sit in my seats outside. (50 yard line, directly above Portal PP—best seat in the house in my opinion).

If you ever get the chance to sit in Legacy seating (blue seats on the east side) jump at the opportunity. Great seats, delicious food, and there is no sacrifice of game atmosphere.

PS: When you leave the loge after the game be sure to take the stairs down the tower instead of the elevator. Not only is it faster, but it’s a lot of fun to jump on the stair landings and hear the BOOM it makes in the tower.

That's the room where they do the Greg Wrubell-Bronco Mendenhall Coach Show.

When I was in high school (early 90s) we had pregame and halftime passes for the loge while actually viewing the game from box seats below. It seemed like the best of both worlds because you didn't have to dress in church clothes but you could still go up there to eat the good food. I remember gourmet hot dogs, pizza and huge bowls of candy/treats that you could take back to your seats. I loved the little martinellis sparkling apple cider in glass bottles shaped like apples. At the time it felt very high class and left me feeling pretty special to be able to hang out there.

The best part was seeing the General Authorities up there mingling and enjoying the game just like everyone else. I remember one time introducing myself to Elder Perry and asking him if he knew where I would be going on my mission in a few years. He laughed and said that I would go where the Lord wanted me to go.

I'd rather win in the nosebleed than lose in the loge. But all I'm doing is showing petty jealosuy! Congrats and enjoy!
