Specific dates for the games were released today:
The teams will meet at LaVell Edwards Stadium, on Oct. 15, 2016, with a second game being played at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi, on Oct. 14, 2017.

2016 is a tough schedule to start out with:
9/3 Arizona (N) in Scottsdale, AZ
9/10 @ Utah
9/17 UCLA
9/24 West Virginia (N) in Landover, MD
9/30 **Hopefully a bye over conference weekend between trips back east
10/8 @ Michigan State in East Lansing, MI
10/15 Mississippi State
10/22 @ Boise State

Then the final 5 weeks of the season would include a likely FCS team, UMass, Cincinnati, Southern Miss, and Utah State. Or maybe that bye week comes either 10/29 or 11/5 and the FCS or UMass home game falls on conference weekend.

Dan Mullen is liken him some Cougar meat.
I think while this is huge for BYU at one level, it is feeding frenzy time for P5 conferences to play a team that doesn't hurt their SOS, but is not likely to hurt, injure, or beat them with regularity--unless that team is GT or a few other cellar dwellers.
I have to agree with this. I love that we're getting games with the big boys. But I just don't know that we can handle a super tough schedule every year. I'm not saying we schedule a ton of FCS games, but if our only road to the championship game is going undefeated then we need a tough, but not killer SOS.

I agree with Cougs_Rule--the most difficult thing about independence right now seems to be finding balance in scheduling. 2014 was probably our best-balanced schedule, and we muffed that opportunity on the defensive side of the ball. Otherwise, we either have over-easy schedules and in the future we look to have over-tough schedules that are going to leave us beat up unless we develop depth on the quick.

If you're an injury or two away from mediocrity, you're not ready for a schedule like 2016 is looking to be.

Stoked that the 2017 Miss State game is within a four hour driving distance and will be year two of the next QB. :P

I would give My CC membership for more than one or two rational posters on this topic.

Some of you thin-veneered fans trying to dog pile me with down votes is not only laughable but you have given into the innanenesss of this sophomoric system. What's next? You going to give Sno a down vote for agreeing with me? Credit you Sno. My concerns on this topic are clearly challenging the "level of education" by some of the readers/posters of this site.

Ah yes, because someone disagrees with you, they must be "irrational." It seems to me like a good home and home, with no pseudo-neutral games and that takes place in the near future, especially with us hosting first, is definitely something to celebrate. I don't see it as Holmoe selling us out or selling us short.

How many have complained that we haven't gotten "big wins" or beat teams that finished ranked? You know why some other schools have more of those wins? Because they play more of those games. If you have little faith that we can compete in a P5 conference, then I can see why you might be upset by playing a P5 schedule, but if you "irrationally" believe that we could compete in a P5 conference (not meaning that we'd go undefeated, but that we'll be competitive and take some games from big-name schools) then it seems like something to celebrate.

I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

I have very little problem with people disagreeing. I have an issue with cowardice in down voting without having a debate. Actually I could care less about the weenie voting system on CC, particularly the negative votes. The more the better. The more that happen the closer CC is to seeing the silliness of this system.

Perhaps the system is in place to act as a red flag for those who can't tell for themselves how disagreeable their tone has become. Differing opinions are good, but bad attitudes can wear thin. We all suffer from that same problem from time to time, myself generously included. That's why we downvote posts, and not posters. We all have moods, and we can all change.

Funny how I don't see anyone else complaining about the voting system except for you. You must care more than most.

I think this is a great announcement. I think that if BYU is going to have a chance to stay relevant, schedules like this are needed. When BYU won the first 4 games last season, one of the chief complaints was "Who have they played?". If by some off chance, BYU starts off 2016 4-0, nobody will be asking that question. If BYU finishes that season 8-4 before the bowl, that's better than an 8-4 this year. That's also one of the years where BYU could still have an outside chance at a New Years 6 bowl game with one or maybe two losses. If they somehow go undefeated (unlikely) they're in the playoff.

Schedules like this are significant, and a great opportunity to make a lot of noise.
