Bama 2015

Post by Cougarbib »

Yes. That Bama. CBS indicates Bama is desperate for a 2015 opponent. Indicates they may even be desperate enough to do a home and away. The article suggested they try to get BYU. Bama claims they cannot get anyone at all on such short notice and have called everyone. They already have an FCS opponent. May even be desperate enough to get a 2nd one according to the article.

Something tells me they have not tried offering BYU a home and away deal. If 2015 is typical, Bama probably has 6 home games already and could humble themselves and come to Provo first and then get us to come there later.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Looks like September 19th would work for both... Make it happen!

Bama doesn't want to leave their home.

Yep, plus what is the upside to playing BYU? Travel cross country (you don't see top tier SEC teams do that often), play in non-core recruiting location, with little national attention if they win (assuming the BYU program does not have a huge year next year) and potentially play a solid team that if the chips fall right could give them a run (not likely but possible)......thus a lot to lose with little upside. Why not just play at home, rest up for the SEC schedule and get an automatic W.

Bama could write a check and get someone to come to AL.

Go to CBS and read the article. Their AD said they have called everybody. They are desperate to get someone. The article indicates they are possibly desperate enough to give a home and away or schedule a 2nd FCS opponent - 2015 is not business as usual because they need a game and most 1 and done schools are already booked.
Bama AD indicated they want someone now because it gets very expensive to buy out or up the later it gets.

Normally, I agree that a 1 and done would be all BYU could even hope for here. It turns out that we have already done so many of those, that we do not have a road game to give unless we payoff one of our road opponents to cancel and pay up someone to come to Provo.

IIRC, all teams are required to play a minimum number of home games so that some schools do not go roll over for someone every single game.

I had not read it, sorry. I am not sure they called every team in the country, and circle of "everybody we know" could be exaggerated......I don't buy it. He probably is priming everyone for a really bad opponent. If they were truly distressed BYU should make an offer and BYU could get creative to make it happen......nothing better than a distressed seller.

If BYU wants to play top guys you have to take the opportunities. Looking at the schedule there is no way Michigan or Nebraska switch venues, the other teams would need to be given something very enticing to do so. Given the independent status of BYU I would guess they would not want to ruffle any feathers with any programs nor conferences.

Read between the lines. He asked everyone to come play at Bama and got no takers. He called everyone for that offer. Now they are about to consider a 1 and 1. Probably to start at Bama and then Bama will stiff that school. They already owe us a return game from way back when. I would take the 1 and 1 if they come to Prove first.

Yep, they're so desparate that they still want to control the negotiations.

I'd propose this to Alabama. 2015 in Provo. 2016 in Jerry's World. 2017 in Tuscaloosa.

BYU PER W/L Since 1972: 432-76 (.850)
(8.4x
YDS)+(330xTD)+(100xCOM)-(200xINT)

I like the neutral site angle. Could be attractive and increase the opportunity for $$$, plus give added exposure to TX recruits.

Why not offer a one and done neutral site, somewhere in TX. Win/win for both sides, other then us having a tough start to next season.

Sounds like they need a home game too. Neutral site might be the answer.
