Re: Friday Scrimmage
The main takeaways for me from the scrimmage last week we're as follows:
A) Jamaal needs to learn to catch better to take the next step.
B) the defense was stealing signs on the plays.
C) the defense was fairly dominant without all of the starters. Only gave up 1.42 points per possession. (17 points on 12 drives).
D) penalties need to be a whole lot less in a real game (although that PI on the long pass from Stewart was bogus). Penalties by the offense killed most of the drives.

I can't help but wonder if Jamaal is magically a better receiver with Christian Stewart behind center.stuckinbig10country wrote: The main takeaways for me from the scrimmage last week we're as follows:

Of course, I'm biased. Taysom is our best athlete, but many of you will remember my post from LAST year where my wife and I watched practice and she noted that Stewart was the only QB on the team who could consistently pass the ball accurately (though Hill does have a stronger arm and perhaps a better deep ball).

I lied- This was something that I had stated verbally during a CougarCorner podcast.Mars wrote: Of course, I'm biased. I have touched briefly on Christian Stewart's exceptional throwing ability before:

But really, it's Cougs_Rule who was the first to state such on this board (followed second by cougarbib's son):

If it hits him in the hands, and isn't high or low, he has to catch it no matter who is throwing it.Mars wrote:I can't help but wonder if Jamaal is magically a better receiver with Christian Stewart behind center.stuckinbig10country wrote: The main takeaways for me from the scrimmage last week we're as follows:

Re: Friday Scrimmage
We have had more of a receiving talent problem than a throwing talent problem. Give Taysom a chance with this receiving group and we'll see how it goes.Mars wrote:I lied- This was something that I had stated verbally during a CougarCorner podcast.Mars wrote: Of course, I'm biased. Re: Friday Scrimmage
It's a tricky question, because our receivers are both worse and better than last year. There is not one receiver that is (currently) as good as Hoffman, but I have to think that the collective influx of talent is better than Ridley and company.

Re: Friday Scrimmage
You guys do realize that the scrimmage that has everyone up in arms was tagged by Jason beck as Taysom hill's worst practice of all of fall camp? Taysom hill will average 60+ completion percentage this year everyone needs to calm down.

True when speaking about the WRs. False when talking about the RBs.mizzoucoug wrote: We have had more of a receiving talent problem than a throwing talent problem.

Re: Friday Scrimmage
yes. And I also know that Jake Heaps was the best practice QB in college football history. This was a live scrimmage. Hopefully it was just an anomaly. It reminded me if the UVA game last year. That was probably flagged as one of his worst games. Many defensive starters were out last Friday as well.frdbtr wrote:You guys do realize that the scrimmage that has everyone up in arms was tagged by Jason beck as Taysom hill's worst practice of all of fall camp? I am not panicked. I have been pretty optimistic about this season. Color me slightly less optimistic after witnessing that scrimmage.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.
