Think about it. If he were a little slower, the defender would have had a better angle on the tackle. He wouldn't have had to be reaching and grabbing him at pad level. And if Taysom hadn't been so powerful, the tackler wouldn't have had to swing his weight around Taysom which resulted in the ankle/leg getting pinned underneath.
So really, if Taysom wasn't so strong and fast, his injury wouldn't have been as severe, if it happened at all!

If he weren't so fast he wouldn't be the starting QB because he would have been beat out by better passers.

Taysom was sharp passing last Friday too. He was 8/11 for 99 yards and a TD before he went down. I wish he had passed on that play.

Bo Jackson would if he were playing today. Several players have returned with his injury (Priest Holmes, etc).snoscythe wrote:Tell that to Bo Jackson.

Holmes' injury was not nearly as bad as Jackson's, and Jackson had the complication of AVN in the hip, which Holmes did not have. Even with modern imaging, odds would be less than 50% that doctors would be able to prevent the AVN, which is what ultimately did in Bo Jackson. Once AVN sets into that hip, the odds against return are daunting. Only one NFL'er has ever come back from AVN, and even that player only got 3 more years before a hip replacement (due to AVN) ended his career.SpiffCoug wrote:Bo Jackson would if he were playing today. Our understanding of traumatic hip injuries has improved dramatically since Bo Jackson's retirement, and so has the treatment. But it's likely his prognosis would only be slightly improved today. His treatment was almost certainly thorough and prompt, and we can assume his avascular necrosis was diagnosed quickly. Medical opinion on progressive AVN is unchanged over the decades: Don't ever play football again. Bo Jackson's hip was a ticking time bomb of decay. Not even he could play NFL football on one of those.

Isn't AVN what Pitta is now going through?
Bo Jackson was also one of the best athletes of the 20th Century. He was better than Michael Jordan.

Pitta hasn't gotten that diagnosis yet, but I'm sure it's at the top of his worry list.SpiffCoug wrote:Isn't AVN what Pitta is now going through?

Agreed about Bo. My grandpa kept his scout card on Bo Jackson when he retired from scouting for the LA Rams--the only scout card he kept. Bo was a once in a century talent.

I said as much in another thread - a weaker runner doesn't get hurt on that play, because they don't carry the runner several steps, which allowed the injury to happen. Terrible luck - which sums up the entire game, really.SpiffCoug wrote:Think about it. If he were a little slower, the defender would have had a better angle on the tackle. That whole play seems to go in slow motion form me...even before I knew he was hurt. He could have given the ball, tossed it to the back, or not fought so hard to get away. He went out like a competitor though. And didn't even lay on the grass.
