Bad news for BYU football and Chaz Ah You. Arrested for suspicion of DUI.

PROVO, Utah – For the second year in a row, BYU football has a player arrested during the off-season on suspicion of a DUI.

Ah You was arrested on Sunday, February 9th in Eagle Mountain along Red Hawk Road and Pony Express Parkway, according to documents filed in Utah County Court. Documents show that Ah You was going 75 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone and was following close to other vehicles while driving.

Records from the police also indicate that during the inventory search of the vehicle, two containers of alcohol with one container contained a consumable amount and the other one was empty. Due to weather, a field sobriety test was performed at Utah County Jail.

Ah You was charged on suspicion of a DUI, reckless driving, unsafe lane travel, speeding, and an open container.

A junior outside linebacker, Ah You is viewed as one of BYU’s top players in a young linebacker unit that made significant strides a season ago. Last season, in his first year back after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ah You recorded 31 tackles, one sack, one interception, and also forced a fumble.

A heralded four-star recruit who had offers from over 30 different college football programs, Ah You signed with BYU from Timpview High School in the class of 2017 and has drawn comparisons to NFL and former BYU linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Fred Warner for his athletic play at the position.

Attempts to reach BYU for comment was not immediately available.

For those who don't know, I live in Eagle Mountain and I regularly run along this road. I very likely could have been killed if I had been there at the same time as Chaz was driving drunk. It makes me sick to think about it.

They have to be reporting the location incorrect. I mean it doesn't matter, but Red Hawk is only 1/4 of mile long. I live there. There's only 11 houses on the road and IF you got your car up to 75 MPH, you'd be immediately slamming on the brakes because either you hit the signal light on the west end and the road ramps up on the other side of the intersection and your front end would be cutting groves through pavement, or you're flying out into Nolan Park because that's where the road dead ends on the other end. I was there at that time of day and I saw nothing going down and like I said, it's that small of a road that if a State police or County Sheriff (we have no local police in Eagle Mountain) pulled anyone over, everyone in the neighborhood would see them. In addition, there's never been any police running radar on that street trying to find speeders. The road is just too short. It would be kind of a waste of time.

You know what else is weird is the comment about the fact they had to take him to the Utah County Jail for sobriety test because "due to weather". It was a nice day all day Sunday there on Red Hawk and Pony Express Parkway. Something is strange about this report.

Let's pull for him to get things straightened out. I hope he's able to come back to BYU to finish ... he's a fine player.

That's exactly what happened. When I got home and talked to my son, he said he saw the incident, but didn't know until today that it was a BYU player. He had been traveling on Pony Express and was pulled over and turned on my street, Red Hawk Ranch Rd. I guess they were practically across the street from us and I just never saw them.

I do hope that this doesn't define his BYU career. I don't cut any corners with those driving under the influence. Suspend him a year, but then welcome him back. Any young adult that is living at that level has some issues that go far beyond football and he needs to have a wake up call to bring him back to reality or he's in for a heap of trouble.
