Utah to Pac 10 crap again

So, I don't care to even think about it until something happens but one can't help wonder how this will all end up in the end.
I for one would hate to see byu and utah in different conferences. It is one of the best rivalries in sports and i would hate to see anything detract from that.

Agreed - the BYU vs. Yewta rivalry is one of the great ones. That said - I'd kinda like to see them go - just so they could get pounded down to size & get a reality check.
They would be middle of the road team in the PAC-10 w/ a good year every now & then - just like the Arizona schools.

Yes, that is true and I think BYU would continue to get national attention each year as a potential bcs buster. We would surely get to more bcs games to them assuming the general bcs landscape didn't change, which is looking more and more to be a bad assumption.Ddawg wrote:Agreed - the BYU vs. Yewta rivalry is one of the great ones. If the utes went to the pac10 and then mwc got an auto bid that would be good for us because we would be in the hunt every year for bcs auto bid where utah would not be.

Then news seems to be blowing up about expansion an realignment again.

http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/ ... -candidateCollege football sources told FOX 26 Sports on Monday that a major U.S. company was commissioned to find the best candidates to become part of the BCS.
The sources involved requested anonymity and asked that FOX 26 not divulge the company involved.
Sources told FOX 26 that the company developed a list of eight schools who are members of conferences not affiliated with the BCS that are the best candidates to make the move.
The list was read to FOX 26 in this order:
Boise State University, University of Utah, University of Houston, Texas Christian University, Brigham Young University, University of Nevada, University of Hawaii and Fresno State University

Re: Utah to Pac 10 crap again
The problem with all the conference realignment chatter is that it is driven solely by football. Except in the PAC-10 and Big 10, where university standing matters. That list the FoxNews posted did not account for Uni standing, believe me. No way Boise State gets in the Pac 10. No way. I think Utah and Colorado makes the most sense, but Colorado may not want that. And BYU to the Big 12, amongst a few other religious universities like Baylor, makes sense as well. I still hope Utah goes PAC 10 and BYU Big 12. Screw teh PAC 10. They are not a good fit culturally for BYU and we all know it. The Big 12 is.

Re: Utah to Pac 10 crap again
The rivalry will still go on even if we are in separate conferences. It certainly would take a little heat off of it though if we weren't playing so many of the same teams year in and year out. There's smack week in and week out between Y and puke fans because of comparison between who scored more against AFA or UNLV, etc.
But hey, at least it would make one less non-conference game we'd have to schedule every year.

Re: Utah to Pac 10 crap again
Collin Cowherd was on KALL700 today apparently, as it is the local ESPN affiliate in SLC, and he said he expected this to happen by the end of this year. He thinks the Big 10 acts first and expands, and the PAC10 then follows. He also said he has spoken to 2 AD's in the PAC10 who say Utah is a natural fit for them. I think they all want Colorado as the other team.
Not sure what this will mean for BYU. It really depends on if any Big 12 schools head to the Big 10 or PAC10. If 2 do, I think BYU has a great shot, but if just one, TCU would seem to be the more natural fit.
All I can say is that if Utah heads to the PAC10 and TCU to the Big12, the MWC will then stink, even if Boise State gets added. Need a 3rd team, and sorry, but adding Fresno, Houston or Nevada won;t make their be 3 solid teams. BYU might be forced to go independent in football to schedule the games they need to get BCS worthy.

If Utah were to go to the PAC 10, and BYU were to remain in the MWC, there is at least one possible positive. Post season, assuming the Cougars were not invited elsewhere, they would go to the Las Vegas Bowl, where they could beat the fourth or fifth place PAC 10 team, Utah.

1- Colorado wouldn't join the PAC-10.
2- Utah and team X won't get 10 of 10 votes from PAC-10 chancellors.
3. The MWC, -Utah/TCU, +BSU/FSU/UNR/UTEP/UH is a big step up for my interest level.

Bowl Win Over Utah > Regular Season Win Over Utah?
I could buy that.
"Neutral" Field Wins are better for a more objective comparison between two teams. I like it.
