Max Hall had a good game

Post by mcgregor »

Just wanted to recognize that Max made some great decisions on Saturday. Generally, he knew when to throw, whom to throw to, when to run, etc. I hope he makes similar decisions this week, and I hope Manase Tonga is back.

Not directed at you McGregor, but just an observation on life in general:

It's funny how success/failure determines the perception of your decision. If Max gets tackled one inch short of the goal line as the first half runs out, CougarNation (myself included) would crucify him. But, all 21 other players on the field were expecting the spike, and he skiffs in. Suddenly, CougarNation (myself included) admire the guts. These are the decisions that make Max Hall so polarizing. When you succeed, you are gutty, cerebral player who does anything to win. When you fail, you are a "gunslinger" who refuses to play within himself and pushes too much and doesn't study enough film.

Great game by Max. Keep it up this week when we really need it.

No offense taken. I agree wholeheartedly.

It comes with the territory of playing QB, and it would be foolish for a QB (or arm-chair defender) to kick against these pricks. It comes in good times and bad; the defense won the OU game, but we will remember Max's late drive the longest. The defense lost the FSU game, but Max's interceptions are seared into our memory.

Win or lose, Max's part in this coming game will be what we remember.

It's like the practice of medicine: There is TONS of financial reward and opportunity to be a hero. But once you or someone on your team screws up, you take the blame.

I just hope Max operates a clinic on TCU's defense.

Max Hall has 5 passing TDs, 1 running TD, 0 interceptions, 0 fumbles in his past 2 games.
Harvey Unga has 6 rushing TDs, no fumbles in his past 5 games.

These are stats that if we keep them up, we have a strong chance to go undefeated from here on out. Unfortunately, as football is a game played by humans, mistakes can and will happen. Hopefully they just happen against New Mexico. ;)

So here's the sports psychology question: is this the same Max that struggled with FSU and CSU? Or is he fundamentally changed and/or improved?
